Quoting: sarmadIf Doom is already going to support Vulkan, why not support Linux as well?Because it's Bethesda. Times of idSoftware are long gone.

It's rather simple. UE and Unity will get Vulkan support (UE sooner than Unity), and many in-development games will implicitly start using it in result. That's already quite a lot. Other engines also will catch up at some point.
Apparently desktop Linux marketshare has finally hit that elusive 2% mark

For the sake of discussion, Android is indeed not [glibc] Linux. It's bionic [External Link] one. And bionic is bad news. That's all that should be said. Android is pretty useless for us, when Linux gaming is concerned. It only benefits things indirectly, i.e. may be wider adoption of Vulkan, some improvements to the kernel and so on. Huge rift on libc level and completely different graphics stack makes it "not Linux" for me.

Gaming wise Linux already is probably ahead of OS X, especially for high end gaming. Apple's hardware simply can't cope with the times, and their software is even worse (OpenGL is in bit rot state there, no Vulkan support coming and so on). Expect OS X gaming usage to plummet going forward.

Weirdly, statcounter stopped even listing Linux. Most of those stats aren't that useful.

I bought two games there recently (Infinytrap and Sky Rogue). I'll try their client for a test. Does it allow selecting where to install games, or they all go to standard locations?

And they better avoid mistakes of Obsidian like missing capes, because they used some Uninty plugins that don't work on Linux.

Currently things seem to be messy. Either various highly manual installation, or using amdgpu-pro package from AMD, which installs amdgpu through dkms module, but also installs closed OpenGL and Vulkan implementations.
From what I understood, that dkms module requires special compatibility layer (KCL), which won't be accepted upstream. So it will remain part of that dkms package, but now it's bundled with all other stuff. They plan to make it all more modular, but it didn't happen yet.

Quoting: AnxiousInfusionThank you for these links as I am currently in the process of graduating from Mint to pure Debian and I'm trying to figure out how to get AMDGPU instead of default RadeonSI.You probably mean readeon kernel driver. It is indeed superseded by amdgpu. RadeonSI is FOSS OpenGL implementation for AMD (based on Gallium3D). It works in combination with amdgpu kernel driver.

Quoting: GuestThat’s really surprising, especially since many people who write here (both in articles and comments) say they don’t buy before the Linux version is available or that they’ve been burned by kickstarter! But it’s also pretty cool ;).Many also write that they are backing Linux crowdfunding. So I don't get the impression that most don't. Just those who are upset complain, and you can see them, while others don't talk about it until asked.
