No, it's not stupid and pointless. Crowdfunding is not pre-ordering. It's like comparing investment and a loan. They are different, even if they appear similar on the surface (i.e. you give money in advance).
Investment means you support some project you are interested in and without you (the investor), that project is not going to be made at all. Investments have risks (i.e. projects failing, not delivering the expected result and so on). That's what crowdfunding is - collective investment of interested people into some project.
Pre-ordering is simply giving loan for nothing. I.e. you give your money to someone who doesn't depend on it for development, but can use that money for duration between your pre-order and release (for instance they can profit from that money in any way they want during that time). So why pre-order? Because you like those developers so much that you want to offer them a loan? May be, if that's how you view it, but otherwise - it's a weird practice.

I'm waiting for them to publish the protocol spec. Then it would be an interesting project to create an open client. I'm not going to use theirs, as long as it will remain closed.

Thanks, a very interesting interview. RAD debugger sounds promising. Though they are ambiguous whether it will be open source or not:
What will the licensing be?I hope it will be. Otherwise it will end up like Totalview.
We have no idea right now. We're just trying to make something cool first.
Shadow Warrior For Linux Updated, Now More Graphically Awesome

Quoting: amelcher@ShmerlThanks for the clarification. The game runs beautifully and performs very well by the way.
The port was started by Edward Rudd (@outoforder_cc) who handed it off to me late last year. Most of my time was spent porting the DX11 renderer to OpenGL. The linux and mac port should be 1:1 to the DX11 version graphically. The game isn't using any features specific to DX11 so I was able to get away with just OpenGL 3.2+ (comparable to DX10).

Quoting: amelcherHey guys I'm the guy in charge of the Mac and Linux ports. Glad it seems to be working great for most people, I put a lot of work into these ports. The Humble drmfree build should be updated soon and Flying Wild Hog will likely update the store page with the platforms soon as well. That said if you buy it on steam you will be able to play it on Mac and Linux they simply haven't enabled the icons on the store page. If you have any issues please feel free to voice them on the steam forums. Thanks for the article :-D!Did you do all that porting alone?? Thanks for your work! I'm playing the game now (GOG release), but I'm not sure does it match features in DX11 version or in DX9 version? And what exactly are those differences?
Games requirements don't sound on par with DX11:
Game prerequisites:
OpenGL 3.2 as well as the following extensions:
* EXT_texture_compression_s3tc
* EXT_texture_filter_anisotropic
* ARB_instanced_arrays
* ARB_sampler_objects
* ARB_shader_bit_encoding
* ARB_vertex_type_2_10_10_10_rev

Support is great, but one problem is that developers often treat GOG as an afterthought. Shadow Warrior and Banner Saga appeared on Steam a while ago, and they still didn't come out on GOG (though they are in QA already according to GOG support).
Others, like Age Of Wonders 3 developers, don't want to release Linux versions on GOG altogether, claiming some nonsense reasons like hardships of bundling needed libraries (which shows simply that they have no clue what they are doing).

I lost respect for Triumph after this.
So in result, some Linux games come out on GOG with major delays. But at least I'm glad they are coming out at all.
