Valve discontinuing the last Steam Deck LCD model

Valve probably ran out of stock on the old APU and it's more cost effective to just concentrate on the newer 6nm one.

Linux user share on Steam hits second highest percentage in years

According to Linux GPU stats 1.82% (AMD AMD Custom GPU 0405) were surveyed on Steam Deck. So the 14% share increase doesn't come directly from Deck users (Not that anyone claimed it did).

Quoting: Hubro
Quoting: ripperI don't understand how you can install a GOG Windows game through Steam. In the screenshot in the article, the game is already installed, and you create a shortcut to run it through Steam. That's OK. But how do you install it, from a GOG installer, using Proton?
Good question, I was thinking the same thing. My assumption was that the game downloaded from GoG didn't need an installer, but was just extracted from an archive and executed directly.
Try using innoextract: https://constexpr.org/innoextract [External Link]. The latest GOG installers might not work with it yet. Most likely also available through your package manager.

Feral Interactive are asking you to send the game port suggestions again

I would also like to see the Japanese side of their current publisher partners on Linux. E.g just from Sega:

1. Yakuza games
2. Valkyria Chronicles 1 & 4
3. Bayonetta

I actually wonder why we haven't seen this Japanese stuff from Feral. Is it because the Japanese side of these companies don't want to play ball, or is it because all the documentation and possibly the code itself for these games is in Japanese? Japanese developers also tend to use their own engines which would make it even harder for Feral to port them.

Valve officially confirm a new version of 'Steam Play' which includes a modified version of Wine

Quoting: NonjuffoHave you tested RS2014 with Proton? That title is a serious mess of uplay, hardware dongles and ... Denuvo? WTH? Pretty sure that DRM wasn't there in 2014. Maybe that is the "remastering" they did later.
I haven't yet no, and I haven't played it under Wine for a while, although the last time was post the Remaster, which suggests if Ubi have shoehorned UPlay and Denuvo in, it's happened recently. Really hope that's not the case, as it worked well under Wine before, and I was hoping the integration into Steam/Big Picture would mean a lot easier set up under Linux in the future. I'll test and report back when I can.
Thanks. I think UPlay has always been there in some form, so that shouldn't be a problem. Could be that it interacts with the actual program only if it already exists on the system, otherwise it just logs in to the account inside the game.

Due to it's unique nature, this is the only Windows "game" I'd really like to get back. Not enough to overcome my laziness to install and mess with WINE though. Well, not just WINE, but a whole VM with PCI passthrough. Is this Proton thing contained within Steam or a specific game, and not visible to the wider system so I could run say notepad.exe? Something in system wide WINE availability just rubs me the wrong way.

Quoting: dannielloSo it depends how Valve was processed it... Add to Windows? Or Linux? Or "Other"? Or reject completely as "false data"?
As Liam already communicated with Valve - IT WILL COUNT AS LINUX PURCHASE.
Purchases yes, but the hardware survey is a completely separate thing.
If you run your Windows games via this Proton thing you'll do it from the native Steam client. Therefore when you see the hardware survey, it will report you being on Linux.
Yes, should probably have used a past tense there. It would still be interesting to know how those "Wine-clients" have been counted. Sadly we most likely won't. Also I don't think all Wine-steam users will stop using their working setups.

Quoting: johndoeI'm really excited what the next steam hardware survey will tell!?
Maybe in January or so when this feature is out of beta(?) and the usage has stabilized. Doesn't Steam hardware survey emphasize new installs to a point that the results would be heavily skewed in favor of Linux from people that did just some quick tests? Unless the fix they did for cybercafes solved this behavior. In the short term it would certainly show if there is increased interest in Linux gaming due to this new feature (interesting data by itself though). I just don't think it would be a good indicator of actual marketshare in the next few months.

Quoting: bradgyDear God... the possibilities!

My first thought is Windows is gone from all of my machines forever, starting with the HTPC I use to play Rocksmith 2014 on.

Thank you Pierre-Loup, Yorha2B, and the rest of the Linux/graphics team at Valve,... doing such great work.

Bloody hell, that reminds me, I need to renew my CodeWeavers subscription.

Quoting: MohandevirThe last piece of hint is pretty awesome, but is Ninja Theory Linux friendly? Liam might be in a better position to answer that. From an outisder's point of view, it's hard to tell. It seems to be a small studio, on Steam at least, with about 3 games + DLCs (am I wrong?). None of them are on Linux yet. Maybe it's about to change though?
It's their first self-published non-VR game so now they can decide for themselves. Let's hope they cho(o)se well.
