ZED from Eagre Games and Cyan Ventures is out for Linux now, it’s quite an experience (plus an interview)

But that's pretty cool to read, so those devs you talked to seem to have some interest in our favorite platform. Nevertheless, I've heard from other devs, that their sales are more like what the e.g. steam hardware survey shows. There are exceptions of course, like Helium Rain, who shared some numbers and wrote to have 10% Linux sales. Which is awesome!
I guess it depends on the game, for small studios a Linux version is often worth the effort, for those huge studios maybe not, at least not percentage-wise. Maybe with Stadia it might change a bit, as studios have to develop for Linux. And if it's not a Stadia exclusive, why not also get the Linux sales on e.g. Steam (fingers crossed for Destiny 2 :))

Quoting: smantz0rZI talk to a lot of other developers who say "How are you getting hundreds of wishlists on Linux?" and I say "you're not?" and they say "no!" -- "Well, are you building for Linux?" "...no" - "Maybe that's why you're not getting the engagement then."Seems obvious, doesn't it? :D

Happy to have backed this one ;) And even more happy that the Linux version was not a hassle to do, sounds more like the opposite. Hopefully Eagre Games will include Linux in their next title as well!

It seems stupid to have a storefront that supports Mac but doesn’t support a platform 5x the market of Mac.Where does this impression come from? From all statistics I've seen, Linux is never 5x the market of Mac.

On the one hand I'm sad that it doesn't work already with Proton due to EAC.
On the other hand, yep, I'll wait for the native version!

Beat Saber wasn't created for VR, VR was created for Beat Saber!Somewhat true though :D

Quoting: kuhpunktAh okay. But they have a software solution to adjust the distance?Quoting: CorbenMost PC VR HMDs can adjust the distance of the lenses to match your eye distance, at least I'm not aware of any that can't do it.The Rift S at least doesn't have a physical slider
Quoting: liamdaweTo be clear, I've not owned any VR headset, so it's all new to me ;)Yeah, I know, that's why I thought it might be helpful to explain what that stuff is needed for, or what might happen if you don't have that adjustment.

Unfortunately I missed that first badge, but I guess I'll get one on the next round. I'm especially interested in the Index controllers (fka Knuckles). Those might be the best controllers for Beat Saber :D
I just hope my hardware I use for the mixed reality VR stuff can still cope with the higher resolution of the Index etc. But nevertheless, I'm very interested in getting an Index.

Interestingly, I wasn't actually aware until this post that you could tweak the HMD's lenses distance to your eyesThat's a necessity though, otherwise the image would be blurry for you. Most PC VR HMDs can adjust the distance of the lenses to match your eye distance, at least I'm not aware of any that can't do it.

Quoting: hardpenguinHow is Steam Remote Play performing compared to the Shadow streaming? It's kinda funny though to use one streaming service to test another :DQuoting: liamdaweSteam Remote Play is one of the biggest changes (previously in-home streaming), now it's "experimentally" available outside the home too with the renaming. You should now be able to stream games from one Steam client to another, wherever they are.It works pretty well with a rented Windows cloud computer (Shadow [External Link]):

Quoting: Geppeto35This and Outer Wilds... though the latter will come to Steam, and hopefully plays well at least with Proton.Quoting: liamdaweme too, i would say even my last year disappointment! But let's bet on steamplay or wine? :S:Quoting: Geppeto35Phoenix pointI'm still sad.

I'm really curious if we see any benefits in the future through Stadia. Be it direct or indirect. Though it's Linux powered, I'm afraid it's all a black box. So if we hear that Uplay+ will come to Stadia, I'd imagine, wow, they must have Linux versions of their games, so they could publish them on Steam? But I doubt they've ported their catalogue to Linux, so if they don't share any insight, we won't know how this works under the hood. Maybe they are wrapping it with wine/proton. Or Google has its own wrapper.
This causes again a kind of "meh" feeling... Microsoft acquiring more studios that used to release Linux versions, Epic catching more games for exclusivity and thus not giving us Linux version (in the first place), etc... but on the other hand this is really a high level of complaining. We do have many games to play, and until the Linux market share doesn't increase, it won't become a better situation for us. It's just this... "I want it too" thing. The new and shiny cool stuff. And someone else took it, so it's out of our reach.
Well, let's keep buying our games on Steam, so they keep improving Proton and we can at least play most of the Singleplayer things. I mean, even Microsoft is publishing big things on Steam, so chances are good we can play it via Proton...
