Here's a statement from Valve on the reported Steam data breach
15 May 2025 at 7:57 am UTC Likes: 2

So, basically the scariest thing about it is that someone managed to get their hands on a bunch of SMS data. So, theoretically if they know the account details and can continuously intercept text messages, they could get into an account.

The main issue is that this sort of thing has been going on for a while and it's not Steam specific. The cellular network is full of holes and ancient systems that were designed with 1970s threat models in mind.

The distro that couldn't use Firefox for a long time and had to rename it to iceweasel?
And the one that pissed off the KeepassXC devs by suddenly disabling a bunch of features.

And the one that pissed off the bcachefs devs by building with incorrect, broken dependencies.

It's a tad ironic.

Take-Two CEO believes AI will actually increase employment and productivity
9 Feb 2025 at 11:30 am UTC

Technically it is at least plausible that the introduction of AI (even assuming it's doing a good job) could result in both productivity increase and employment increase on the assumption that it involves more people in the production on value. Automation has indeed eliminated some job descriptions entirely, but in many cases that has simply resulted in people working in different jobs, some of which are newly created by automation. The economy doesn't in theory need to be played as a zero-sum game, but I have my doubts about corporations' ability to do that instead of just optimizing for stock market value in the next quarter, which is not reflective of economic value.

Quoting: MattscreativeThis article is just not true at all what so ever.

Ubuntu is one of the worst distro right now due to snaps and mostly outdated packages and kernel and drivers.

The best right now is cachyos which is the most optimized distro to date and it's the most user friendly!

Focus on Gaming: Unlike other distros that cater to a broad audience, CachyOS is specifically designed for gamers. This focus ensures that gaming performance is prioritized and optimized.

I removed the parts that also apply to every mainstream distro over the past 14 years. I debated about the claim for specific optimizations, but then I realized that there aren't any hard numbers that I am aware of that make indicate they make much of a difference and that they can be applied at will on top of mainstream distros if they matter.

I am sure CachyOS is a good OS and all, but maybe let's not claim it's some kind of a panacea? The aggressive distro-warring is very passé, we have moved on as a community and become more civilized after we realized we can just mock Manjaro instead.

Quoting: PikoloDo NOT try to run WarThunder with Proton. It will most likely work for playing replays, but you will get banned by Easy AntiCheat if you try playing PvP
Finally, a way to deal with War Thunder addiction.
