Quoting: LeopardHow many games even are there that use compatibility profiles or otherwise non-standard OpenGL? I only recall Dying Light but that game has been a mess on the OpenGL side since day one. Everything I've been playing in recent memory from AAA to indie games has been using core profiles.Quoting: liamdaweAgreed.Quoting: oldgarolmaooo...good time to move away from NVIDIA!Well, no. Let's not pretend Mesa is perfect. All software has bugs and regressions.
Until Amd Mesa supports compat profiles , Nvidia will be the winner.
Not everybody has to deal with various workarounds to run some games.

Quoting: starfarerMUDs go further back than the 90s, so yeah. BatMUD itself was released in 1990 and it wasn't the first among MUDs.Quoting: KeyrockMUDs are the precursor to MMOs. They are MMOs without graphics. Is that really so? I've been playing Illarion [External Link] on and off for the last 15 years or so and it always had a graphical user interface, even the very first versions from the late 90s.
And it's a really great game since it's about real role-playing. No 1337-speak, no senseless killing or grinding - just picking a character and playing the role of the character as best as you can. Unfortunately fewer and fewer people are playing it. :(

Quoting: pete910I am aware of the effect memory speed has on inter-CCX communications and the examples you provided align with my prediction of 10-20% improvement, varying from game to game. None of the games shown in that video had scaling up to 40%. Plus, those benchmarks were run with the CPU clocked at 4GHz, whereas my CPU is clocked at a peak of 3.7GHz, meaning that memory speed differences become even more pronounced.Quoting: SamsaiNot done your homework have you :PQuoting: pete910@samsai get that ram 3000 + preferably 3200. You are losing 40% ish of perf with that ram @ 2133The kit I own does not go beyond 2133, so that's where it will stay. Plus, I highly doubt that 40% figure, considering the performance would have to scale almost perfectly with memory speed, which is only possible in situations where you are only stressing the memory and nothing else. Going by figures online, my prediction would be around 10-20% improvement in some games and below 10% in productivity. At the current DDR4 prices I am not going to be replacing my 16GB kit with faster memory for those kinds of figures.
The Mem speed is tied in to the inter CCX of the ryzen arch. thus why a big diff can be had.
View video on youtube.com This gives you one example, all be it on windows. There is countless others too
But yes mem prices are ludicrous ATM.

Linux marketshare on Steam dropped again in October, as China takes a massive chunk of the market

Quoting: x_wingMy biggest problem of the montly results of Steam is that the Chinese users got to nearly a half of all users account, but if I see concurrent connected users stats, I don't see such increase in numbers. In fact (and what is more extrange), the peak of concurrent users didn't move from Western timezones. I mean, if there really are more users in Asia, why we didn't see a grow in concurrent users for prime time of eastern timezones? Definitely the biggest grow up comes from multi-account users...Some people have formed a theory which states that a significant portion of the Chinese PUBG players get their accounts banned through either cheating or scamming and just setup new accounts. Each of those newly registered accounts would probably have a fairly high chance of being counted in the Steam survey. I am not sure how well that theory holds up but I guess it's something to consider.

Quoting: GuestLast I checked AMD bails on their driver support faster than you can say New iPhone! They haven't made drivers for my card in like 2 years nor will they. Of course I could go back to 15.04...you know like going back to Windows ME (remember that pile?) to get functionality back. Point is I can install current drivers on all platforms for my nVidia cards...mean while I can install current drivers for my AMD cards in Windows or Mac OS but not Linux because as always AMD has left anything not bleeding edge to die.Found your problem. You are obviously trying to use the worse drivers AKA the proprietary drivers. Switch to Mesa and you'll get regular updates and a better performance in basically most games, not to mention a more stable experience in general.
