Quoting: scaineI might have to pick this up. Everyone seems to be raving about it!
It is a very good game with an interesting story. Although initially I wasn't quite sure about the gameplay it grew on me and I'm looking forward to my second playthrough, which might even start tomorrow winkwinknudgenudge.

Organics sighted, marking for destruction - Stellaris: Synthetic Dawn released along with a free patch

Quoting: TheSHEEEPWhat is the actual downside of playing a synthetic race?
Seems pretty overpowered at first sight.
Synthetics have limited diplomatic capability and slower population growth because they need to actually assemble the pops rather than just let them grow with food. That also means you will need to tap into your mineral pool to get pops up. I guess if you are going to go for a super militaristic empire you might get hefty bonuses from being a synthetic but piss off too many empires at the same time and you might pretty quickly get crushed by an alliance of organics. I think the fact that factions are not present for the synthetics can also be a downside since you don't get the influence income bonuses from pleasing the factions, so less expansion.

City-building strategy game 'Banished' is no longer having a Linux port

This is indeed yet another example of why purchasing a game immediately when a port is announced or hinted at is a bad idea. Stay patient, hold onto your precious currency and wait until you can actually get a product for your money.

A bunch of Feral Interactive Linux ports may be broken on Arch and others, here's a possible workaround

Quoting: cprnDo you not run Steam runtime anyway? I see no point in running native libs that might or might not work with a particular title. It's way more effective to just use what's provided and tested.
Steam runtime is not exactly a perfect solution either. It worked decently well for a while until libstdc++.so along with some other libraries in the runtime became so outdated they broke OpenGL support on open source drivers. That forced a lot of people to abandon the runtime in favour of Steam native. Then Valve went and kind of fixed the problem by preferring host libraries, with the result that stuff is broken now because now a system library gets loaded and is incompatible with the game.

I don't think there's a single winning move with the current setup. Steam runtime is in a serious need of updates and central libraries in general should put more effort into backwards binary compatibility.

I counted well over a 100 normal articles (aka non-Patreon related and I discounted livestream announcements) between this Patreon article and the previous one and unless I missed one somewhere I'd say the ratio is pretty good. If an article here and there is too much then I imagine a big banner on the front page would also be too much and if neither is present then nobody knows the Patreon exists and income growth grinds to a halt despite the website possibly growing in popularity.

Looks like GOG Galaxy won't come to Linux any time soon, as it's "not a priority"

Quoting: KayKay91...why is it that everytime i read comments here, feels like you guys are saying that GOG cancelled making a Linux version despite the fact that it is stated that it's "not a priority".

In fact IMO, deciding not to buy any game from em is pretty much the worst idea you can possible make in this current situation.
"Not a priority" practically means it's in limbo indefinitely, which is about as good as cancelled until they come up with a schedule that specifies when it's due to come out.

And regarding buying games from them, why should we? Some of us are really not interested in the hassle that comes with buying games without access to a client that handles updates for them and I for one am not going to keep buying games from them to "encourage" them to port the client over. That's almost like buying Windows copies of games to run in Wine to show that Linux users have an interest in them, ultimately my answer as GOG would be "Oh, they don't care that we don't have the client for them? Well, that means we can drop it down on the priorities even further!".

No Galaxy sadly means that GOG will stay a tertiary game store (at best) for me. I might use it to get some data files for certain games that have engine replacements on Linux but it's highly unlikely I will buy anything else from there. I have a fairly sizable games library and I just will not re-download dozens of games to get my patches, not to mention having to track when these games actually do receive updates. It's a shame really, I appreciate the whole DRM-free idea but I am not willing to sacrifice that much convenience for an issue that ultimately doesn't end up affecting me a whole lot.

Oh, and not to mention the quite vast difference between how much GOG and Valve support our platform. Haven't heard of GOG hiring people to work on Mesa for example.
