GOG has another sale on for the 'Lantern Festival' with some good Linux games going cheap

Since GOG isn't really doing much for Linux users and there lack of galaxy, I've been avoiding buying games from them, mostly sticking to itch and steam. Even games that do have linux ports exist on steam only. Some small dev's even complain that gog makes it difficult for linux ports. Sorry for the negativity towards them, I do prefer DRM free but I also require that the programs will execute on linux. Am I being to harsh towards GOG?

Have you tried doing a recovery?

You shouldn't have to re download your games.

This didn't work at first, but after three tries the update went through. Bizarre.
Very strange indeed, but at least it worked!

I was never crazy about steam, but and I mean a big But, since they have made huge strides on bringing more games to Linux and poring hired efforts into Linux gaming and things like steam play that also end up in wine it's hard not to like them.
So thank you very much for your hard work, now please bring back steamos and make it the next big thing that everyone wants in there living room. o ya happy b day :)

Quoting: MohandevirPersonnally, I really do like SteamOS but, imo, the "lowest denominator" they are offering is just way too low (outdated drivers). I prefer tweaking an Ubuntu minimal install and add the nvidia gpu drivers or mesa repo.

Stumbled upon this project that quite does that with a nice automated script:

I guess it might change when SteamPlay will be out of beta...
I agree with you there, that's why I'm using the brewmaster beta.
On that topic, we need more people to put the steamos box in there living room and this is where valve really need to do more polishing on. They need to keep it as simple and streamlined as possible and steamos is moving way to slow, that's why it's loosing steam. (pun not intended :) They need to keep issuing bug fixes and introduce a lot more features to it so that people can't wait to get home to play on there steambox. It's just not happening. FYI if valve is reading these posts, a lot of us I think still love it but you really need to kick it into a higher gear to attract and keep and grow the user base.

I am torn between Steam and GOG. I like Steam and support it as much as possible for all the absolutely fabulous work they do and sponsor to make Linux gaming a reality. On the other hand, I really respect GOG on philosophical grounds. Their stance against DRM and their respect for the gaming community is second to none. But the pragmatist in me decided that, selfishly speaking, Steam/Valve are doing more for Linux at the moment than basically any other gaming company.

I used to never buy steam games, then steam had to go and start supporting linux and pouring a whole lot of love into supporting this great platform. Well since then I have lost interest in gog since they don't really seem to care about linux.
All purchases are mostly steam. Gota support the people who make software and support our platform.
Sorry I had to add more to your thought :)
