Quoting: UlukaiDenuvo was not in the Doom beta either. If it could be added at a later stage, it can easily be removed later. It's just a matter of permissions and other solutions. The problem with removing Denuvo instead of porting it is that I don't think Zenimax would ever allow it.
Seriously hoping for Doom too.

Also, the main thing holding a potential port of DOOM back, would be the use of the Denuvo DRM system, but apparently Total War: Warhammer is also using Denuvo and that game is coming to Linux, so that reason may be out the window :)

Quoting: wvstolzingAlso, few people know this, but one of John Carmack's many talents is that he's a virtuoso trumpet player -- and his favorite instrument happens to be the 'System Blue 12S; or the SB12S' [External Link]Trumpet you say?
So, discussion over, I believe?

The state of Linux gaming is quite good, I agree, but the launch of SteamVR / HTC Vive without (the promised) Linux support really leaves me wondering what their plan is.
I mean, we're talking about a company that runs a console platform, releasing a peripheral without support for their own platform. Imagine if this had been any other company, eg. Sony releasing their Playstation-VR with support for Windows PC only and Playstation support coming eventually - it would be considered madness, but somehow, for SteamOS it's generally accepted as okay.
Everything else Valve is doing fills me with hope, but that specific move threatens to abolish that hope with bad planning.

EDIT: Also, if anyone here is using Vineyard [External Link], I just added support for the flag (CSMT and DXVA2-VAAPI support were also recently added), so, yeah, that's easier now :)

Quoting: GuestNo, really, it is. The issue only happens with the NVIDIA driver and only in very few games. Leaving it on also has a negative impact on the framerate of all other games and Direct3D programs that don't have the issue, so it should definitely not be on by default. If you want more information about it, the thread concerning the issue has the full story, including tests :)Quoting: ShmerlIf it's not needed for most games, then it's better to leave it as an optional fix.No, it’s not.

Quoting: UnshraI really hope that Mars = DOOM. I as want to play DOOM and have been fighting the urge to purchase it for Windows as I feel it is ripe for porting over to Linux and Mac OS.Don't bother. Their DRM implementation breaks it on Wine :(

Quoting: SamsaiJust for when reality starts hitting your face and disappointment starts kicking in hard, keep in mind that Project Brutality is still a thing and it's a quite wonderful thing indeed if you can just get an engine to run it properly.GZDoom is running it just fine for me.

The game is pretty amazing already. Rock solid Linux version and a very decent tutorial mode for this type of game (unlike Beyond Earth, ughh)!
My first game ended up being a 17-20 hour (my memory and Steam don't agree on this) play session. I'm scared to start the game again :P

CCP did go somewhat overboard with their cease and desist letter though: "Specifically, please remove all references to Vampire: The Masquerade and Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines from your website, software, and related materials." [External Link]

Quoting: STiATI hope the studios / publishers will stop going after reimplementation of engines for playing the games in linux requireing the original copy (since we need to pay for it anyway).Well, they went after them after they started importing and improving character models and redesigning levels in Unity, which is something I would have loved, but it's certainly different than using the original data files.
Happened with the guys reimplementing vampires: bloodlines (Project Vaulderie? Seem to have forgotten..)
Looks promising though, taking a few minutes browsing the source I didn't really think they would be able to render properly yet...

Quoting: xuwangDoes the steam controller work well for this one? I have two steam controllers and am looking for good local coop games.Last I tried it worked (months ago), but I remember having to set up my own mappings. I'll give it a go now and let you know if it's improved :)
