Quoting: CybolicYup, it works, but it's a lot trickier than using the stick! I've uploaded a controller setup that's a bit more nuanced that the one that was there already by "jorge", to allow for finer movements, but it still takes a lot of practice.Quoting: FredOAfter seeing this, I'm sold on the controller now. It's strange that this feature wasn't advertised more, because it's a killer feature in my book.I'll let you know once it's downloaded ;)
I would be interested to know how well it works with Dirt Showdown?

Quoting: ricki42So somewhat related: does the haptic feedback work on Linux? I don't really feel anything, even when set to high. I can hear it though, so I'm not sure if my thumb is just not picking it up. Or it might not be working properly. I don't really know. I've read great things about the feedback, so I'm a bit disappointed. It does. It's worked for me perfectly in Ubuntu 15.04, Kubuntu 15.04 and SteamOS. It's completely different from a normal gamepad rumble though, much closer to what you get while typing on an Android phone's keyboard. It is quite light though, so can be missed in the heat of a game, but I've at least grown somewhat used to its feedback, enough to know which emulated button I'm on most of the time.

Quoting: Eike[...]I didn't even know until recently the Steam Controller had such a feature...Yeah, it's a bit odd that pretty much every single review forgets this functionality completely *conspiracy face*

Quoting: slaapliedjeYou don't have to be in Big Picture Mode [...]Yeah, that's just it; I haven't been able to switch the controller to any other mode when not in Big Picture and it doesn't seem to autodetect whether it should really be in gamepad mode, so it's always stuck in mouse/keyboard mode :(
Granted, the controller was in mouse/keyboard mode, so that wouldn't have mattered for this particular game. But it's still a controller, it doesn't force you to be in big picture mode. [...]

Quoting: Stupendous ManOne question: do you need to launch the games from Big Picture for the controller to work, or only for the initial setup? I have an issue with Big Picture and multiple monitors, in that I cannot configure Big Picture to run on a different monitor than the main Steam window.Unfortunately, yes.

UPDATE: You can setup the controller for any game launched from Steam, including non-Steam games, when running in Big Picture mode; so yes, you can use it as a joystick in Tux Racer ;)

Quoting: jordicomaHow does it work for non steam games? Can it work well without steam? I mean does linux detect it as a joystick without the steam program? It will work in keyboard+mouse mode, meaning the right pad will emulate a mouse and the stick will send wasd key presses - I have not been able to have it detected as a joystick or gamepad.

Don't forget that it also has a built-in gyroscope and accelerometer so you can use like a wheel for racing games! Also, the mapping let's you set modifier/switch keys that alter the functions of the rest of the controls - like alt or shift for keyboards.
This thing has it all :D
Edit: Oh, and both analogue bumpers have an extra digital trigger when pressed fully in (you feel the click in hardware) - perfect for the boost in Distance ;)

Ooh! Shorter! Excellent! I find most games too long for me to finish before I'm swamped in other games and work again, so a shorter length sounds perfect to me.
