Lenovo are to start shipping Fedora Linux as an option on their ThinkPad laptops

Great news! I knew it was smart to wait.

Our installer aims to make the complicated process of installing Fedora to replace another operating system as easy as possible, but it’s still a barrier even for tech-literate people
Wait what?

Don't do that.

The existence of "Social Justice Warriors" is an entirely made-up bogeyman from terrible people hoping to dupe others into not calling out their terrible behaviour. Anyone actually using the term is either one of those terrible people or someone that they've duped. Don't be either.
Only a sith deals in absolutes.

On a more serious note, you sound condescending. Don't be that.

Quoting: EikeDon't let those people take away the word gamer from you. I'm playing games, so I'm a gamer.
On the contrary, I prefer to avoid any association with "gamer culture". I play games; "gamer" is not an identity for me that I just "am a gamer".
That's exactly what I meant by letting them take away the word from you. People associate good general words with special things and spoil them. Let's keep the words. They're ours just as well.
There is no real point to the word "gamer". When you say: I'm a gamer, what are you trying to really say? That you like to play video games? Or that you often play video games? Then just say, I play video-games. It's more descriptive and clear at the same time.

I like to listen to music, but I don't refer to myself as musicer.
I like to watch movies, but I don't refer to myself as watcher.
In the same way, I don't see the need to refer to myself as gamer, unless I want to feel elitist, or part of some jerk-circle.

Quoting: scaine..."get used to using it"? Why? I want to punch walls after 10 seconds of fighting with that finicky, innaccurate button monstrosity. It doesn't just look awful, it is awful. No thanks.
Not you specifically, I was speaking in general.

As for accuracy, I'm able to play FPS with it. Of course, I don't do it (although I do play turn based strategies with it), but I tried it few times and did reasonably well. I would like to see someone do the same with a touchpad.

Quoting: Cyba.CowboyI'd be more concerned that the "rubber" part of the trackpoint would wear away over time... You don't have the problem with trackpads.
I had my laptop for 4-5 years and use it every day. No sign of wearing away yet.

Quoting: RoosterWhy do you hate trackpoint? I mean I get why you would not want to use one, but the way Thinkpad integrates it, it is not really in the way is it?
Hate is indeed probably too strong a word. I don't like how it looks, and I absolutely do hate using one, but I can tolerate its existence if I must. But give me the option to remove it? I'll take that option! :D
The thing is, once you get used to using it, your brain will not want to go back to just touchpad. I don't have it on my business laptop, yet my hands automatically go to the trackpoint position every time.

I mean, if I had to decide whether to buy a trackpoint laptop with Windows preinstalled or laptop without trackpoint, I'll go for the second option. But if I have the option to buy a laptop with trackpoint without Windows, I'll take it ;)

This. I need trackpoint on my keyboard. It is such an underestimated feature.

I want to like it, but I just don't see the point of it. For gaming, I can buy a laptop without OS for similar price with dedicated GPU.
