lets face it. thats the best we can hope for until linux has a higher market share. developers officially support proton
i think thats the way to go for the next years
developers that start program their games now make sure, that they work with proton. im totally fine with it, as long as i dont have to install win10 in 2020

and maybe some win7 users try linux afer the support ends, if they see, that new AAA titles work on linux with 1 click

also batman origin, styx, flame and the flood and prey
I hope they do not add shadow of the tomb raider and hitman 2. Games we may get ports of should not be purchased using steam play imo.
why not? try hitman 2. you can play the tutorial for free. for me it works better, than hitman 1 (actually you all should install it, to show IOI that we want linux) https://store.steampowered.com/app/863550/HITMAN_2/ [External Link]

i mean i get it. you want support feral, but we all want more market share for linux
it is the same with life is strange 2.
why wait, if you can advertise this game now for linux? (it is bad luck for feral, that they already started to port it)

i thinik it is for the best for linux, if you can say "i play TR and hitman NOW" and not "maybe i can play this titles in 1-3 years and if not i have to use proton anyways"

play AAA titles immediately, with good performance at the same time as windows. that helps the linux image

i dont think so, so enix would make more money, if they dont give feral a license and let the linux gamers pay for the windows/proton version
Ah, I didn't think of lowering Square Enix' sales. I consider the risc low, though. If you're publishing a Linux version near the Windows version, Proton sales will be low. If you're doing it months or years later, most Proton sales will probably already have taken place. (I personally did not yet buy a game not natively supporting Linux and don't intend to in foreseeable future.)
i am more pragmatic. if the game works with proton without restriction, i buy it. i think thats the common thinking
i think publishers like bethesda make more money with their games, when they use VULKAN and let linux gamers play with proton, than sell it to feral and let them earn money with native ports

Quoting: jardonTbh I think Feral should focus hard on trying to port multiplayer games. Thats the biggest area that Proton is lacking and one of the biggest dealbreakers with people trying to switch from windows. If you cant play with your friends then they are way less likely to stay on the Linux side of the fence.
they do with warhammer
just look at the top100 list

there are so many linux games. which game should they port?
pubg.... dont think so
ubisoft (clancy / for honor)... dont think so
gta5.... rockstar same as ubisoft
paladins, path of exile.... free to play... how should this work?

dead by daylight... maybe

there is not much to port for feral on the MP market, which brings the moneyzzzz

To the best of our knowledge, Feral pays the owners for the right to port and sell, so from Square Enix' point of view, the answer would be: "Why not?"
does this, or any game have significant more sells, when its linux native, even though its platinum with proton?
i dont think so, so enix would make more money, if they dont give feral a license and let the linux gamers pay for the windows/proton version

lets take just cause 1-3. this game just dont work with proton, so it would have more sales, if feral does a native port. enix gets money from feral and feral from the linux gamers

and thats another point we dont know yet. maybe just cause 5 (4 is too early) has VULKAN and works perfectly fine with proton. do we need a native port then? do we need a native port of doom, or wolfenstein? would be nice, but imho it would be better if they put their manpower in something else

besides tomb raider and hitman which hopefully come anyway

YAKUZA
AC Odyssey
Kingdom Come: Deliverance
just cause 4
dying light 2
metro 3
Rage 2 (but i think it will have vulkan and work with proton like all bethesda games)

They'd be better off doing something with a wider appeal.
its one of the most played game on steam, that dont have a linux port, or is gta5, pubg, etc

tomb raider will have a linux port i guess. not even 3000 players in the past 24h

i also wish they would port yakuza, or elex, or sniper elite, but they have to make money
and then there is proton. could be, that they dont make much money with life is strange 2, cause some play it with steamplay NOW!
That is the problem with Feral and episodic games; they wait until all the season is finished.. That was OK before Proton, but now the rules have changed.
They must release NOW the episode 1 and the episode 2 simultaneously with the Windows version...
Or, at least, if they didn't ported the episode 1, they must release a dummy linux depot, and they must add the Linux icon at the game page... If you buy it on Linux, it will work as a pre-purchase...

Or maybe they have an arrangement with Valve and they will get a cut of Proton sales.

About Shadow of the Tomb Raider, if they haven't announced it by now, is because it will not be ported..the same goes for Shadow of War.
it works for this title, because they already started it, but why would square enix make a deal about a linux port, when the game works fine with proton and they can also have the linux sells without doing anything?

this works with telltales and such games without good graphics, but games like tomb raider should have a native port, because of better performance

or they all use VULKAN in the future and have very good perfomance like wolfenstein and we dont need feral anymore

hard to say what the future brings. maybe sega, or enix buys feral and they make VULKAN games for them
