The Steam Hardware Survey for October 2018 shows a small drop for Linux, a look at daily and monthly active users
2 Nov 2018 at 2:25 pm UTC

Quoting: dannielloSorry to say that, but Valve surveys are not reliable. If they do not know how to count/interpret surveys - perhaps they should outsource it to someone more reliable like steamdb.info.

But some data are sure without surveys - Linux gaming market is very small (almost no AAA new native titles plus abandon Linux port by many Indie developers means that even this virtual 648000 monthly Linux users it is not worth native port).

Linux native games even with Steam Proton is simply not enough to convince "average Windows/Mac user" to learn how to install Linux on his/her computer. Without some "big company" involved (Dell Steam Machines 2?) - I do not think that situation will change...
what is the problem with installing linux? its pretty simple
it takes time. win7 support ends and maybe some developers will use VULKAN for game they just started to program.

but i dont think valve needs surveys. steam records everything. playtime, when u played the last time, OS, etc. why do they need surveys anyway?

Steam Play thoughts: A Valve game streaming service
2 Nov 2018 at 2:31 am UTC

steamplay installs directx and .net and some other stuff from MS. i still believe, that MS can chance the license of this software and charge everyone who uses it outside the windowsworld and MS gets the fee

but of course game streaming is the future, but first we need failsafe internet

What I'm looking forward to now are Valve finding a way to deal with all those zero-byte updates and seeing how they advertise Steam Play on store pages.
I wonder that too...
And I am curious about their actual whitelist process.

Is good to see life signs from Proton devs after two weeks.
i wonder why it takes so much time to whitelist games. on protondb they have 1000 of tests
witcher 3 has less borked entries, than the whitelisted doom or tekken
valve should test all games on the www.protondb.com frontsite and whitelist it
or at least newer games like shadow of the tomb raider, prey, kingdom come, wolfenstein. i think it would really help, if the can advertise with new AAA titles

nier was a good start, but who needs bejeweld, fieldrunner, cats go fishing,....

Quoting: m0nt3Have you tried a match? About 2min into a match is when I get the crash. Otherwise it is fine. I tried mesa-git as well as the default mesa for ubuntu 18.10. I get a couple of pop-up windows about submitting a crash report and one is about the error, but does not give any detailed message. I cannot remember what the error was, but I can check when I get home.
Yeah, you seem to be right, sadly. It crashed for me when I tried just now.
Was running really good with vulkan too, I have been playing a lot recently. I actually switched to regular ubuntu to play in vulkan since other DE seem to give me black screens. Hopefully they will get it fixed soon. I actually have rendering errors in opengl that I did not have in vulkan. For instance, when spectating in an air match, I will get black bars on the ground in openGL, but vulkan everything renders correctly and faster.
blackscreen with sound? i have this bug on kubuntu.
"killall kwin_x11" helps
and after exit the game ALT+SPACE -> kwin_x11 -> ENTER (if you do that ingame, it turns black again)

this problem exists for months

Quoting: m0nt3Unfortunately this new updates causes the game to crash when using vulkan. The performance benefits to vulkan were quite nice. Mesa git has several performance problems with openGL and will induce lots of stuttering. Default meaa on ubuntu 18.10 is fine.
same for me. pc doesnt respond before a battle starts, but testdrive still works
i had the same problem with mesa 18.2.1, but i was fixed in 18.2.2
