Is it better than playing them in DosBox?
You get more games, including multiple ports
You get arcade versions of the games
You can play online with rollback netcode without additional setup
MK4 Arcade is available to purchase for the first time
You also get MK Trilogy, and two PlayStation spinoffs with options to make them tolerable
You get extensive practice mode that has a huge amount of features to polish your skill, or chease
You get fatality training, or more like finisher training

When reading the title i was like: "Wait, WHAT?! This game?"
I had actively played it on my phone after completing Bear's Restaurant, and was heavily surprised to read about not just a PC, but also a Linux port!
Checking the price on Steam right now

Them's Fightin' Herds developer Mane6 acquired by Maximum Games
26 Jan 2022 at 11:05 am UTC

Quoting: ArkBlitzWondering if this means they'll move their code base away from Lab Zero's engine though...
Why would they? It's basically a full rewrite of the game if they decide to do that. Considering what they want to do next, they will probably stick with the engine they used for so long.

Talking Point: how about a monthly Steam Game Pass from Valve

I would personally never use it.
While of course you'll get access to a huge amount of games for a fraction of a cost, there's one catch.
You'll get it temporarily.
I do not play a lot of games at the same time, so i find it irrational to have temporary access to huge pile of stuff while using only a small fraction of it.
Not to mention a trend for games to have a hefty playtime.
And what if you want to replay the game but your subscription ends? You have to pay for it again or just buy it separately for the same price like if you never played it, rendering subscription useless if you used it only for that specific game before.
Don't get me wrong, Steam may pull the plug on your access to already bought games, but they allow you to download your games even if they were removed from steam store, why would it change in any foreseeable future?

Plague Inc: The Cure is out now, free until 'COVID-19 is under control'
6 Feb 2021 at 4:36 am UTC

Quoting: KimyrielleJust to clarify, it's free to play until the devs deem Covid to be "under control", but then you have to purchase it to continue playing? Or is it free as in you-get-to-keep-it?
On mobile version you can still buy this DLC even though it's availiable for a couple of months before PC release. I have no idea if Steam can just retract your DLC access though.

Minigalaxy, the FOSS Linux client for GOG adds support for Wine

Oh, so there is some client for Linux games on GOG. And now with the wine support. I'm looking forward to get my own laptop to return to Manjaro and try to run Mortal Kombat 4 there. It is also will be interesting if they add a proton support, like Lutris did.
