my mesa is still on 1.8.
They weren't for me. Debian Buster has been the best solution ever for my computer. I wouldn't recommend to go for the Testing repository now, as the current Stable branch is quite recent. Probably in the next year.

The only change that I have performed is to manually download and install the proprietary NVidia GPU driver, but it is an activity with negligible effort.
In case I need an updated version of Wine or DXVK, I'll let Lutris download and deploy it in the $HOME/.local directory, and use it specifically for that game.

And (a little OT) I would say that defeating Gyoubu Oniwa yesterday night was actually an awesome satisfaction:

I read about the development story in Jason Schreier's book Blood, Sweat, and Pixels, and it left me very impressed for all the effort made by Eric Barone in all the years before the game release.

Awesome.

(Just a speculation, for now...)
I've had a chance for testing it and can confirm: it's the cleanest and best performing distro for gaming I've ever tried.

The first Steam Play update for this year is out with Proton 3.16-7 beta

Quoting: BrisseStarted Steam, then restarted once for 3.16-7 to show up. Selected 3.16-7.
Looks like the setting only applies on non-whitelisted games though.
Whitelisted games seem to use whatever version Valve used when whitelisting it, which makes sense actually because it eliminates the potential for regressions.

Dark Souls II:SotFS - Proton 3.16-7 selected by you for all titles
Dark Souls III - Proton 3.16-4 selected by Valve testing
NieR: Automata - Proton 3.7-8 selected by Valve testing
You can manually force those games remember, which is what I did for Into the Breach and the Steam client clearly said I was on the new version.
What happens if you try to override the predefined version with a custom choice?

$ echo 3.16-7 > .steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata/${GAME_ID}/version

Setting up a Bluetooth Controller for Linux Gaming (Part 2: Wine & Steam Play)

Quoting: officerniceSorry to totally hijack this... but have anyone had any success with wireless controller for Kodi?
Hi officernice,
I have never used Kodi with a controller before honestly, but I did some checks today.

It seems that the package kodi-peripheral-joystick is missing in the Ubuntu 18.10 official repository. I had to install the Kodi release coming from the development team:

$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:team-xbmc/ppa
$ sudo apt-get update

I've turned on my gamepad and then run the xboxdrv driver with the same configuration:

$ xboxdrv --evdev /dev/input/event-asus-gamepad --config ~/.config/xboxdrv/native.conf &

And launched Kody. In the menu Settings / System / Input, I've configured the "Xbox controller (userspace driver)" as a Kodi controller and checked each key mapping. And it worked.

Quoting: GuestSteam Controller is total trash. I bought that thing a couple of years ago and it only worked for about a moth. Hasn't worked properly since. I tried it out yesterday, after not using it for at least a year, and it works inside steam but not in any games. I tried updating, reverting and recovering firmware and none of it worked. I tried pretty much everything that was suggested by Steam Forums (users only, no comments from Valve).

I hope nobody here gets encourages by this article to buy that piece of crap.
Hi Feda,
what happens if you try the evtest command? Do you get the expected keys in output for the pressed buttons in input?

$ evtest /dev/input/eventX
