The Eternal Castle: Remastered is now available on Linux

I didn't even know this game existed. I would have been sold on the soundtrack alone, but now we get another Linux sale, too.

///side note, if you like this sort of music, check out a UK based singer NINA, her album Sleepwalking is like being washed in the 80's.

Mesa 19.2 released to push open source graphics drivers
26 Sep 2019 at 4:07 am UTC

I have been delayed in building my 3900X/X570. I am building a 48inX48in CNC router instead. However when I can afford a new PC build I will be buying some sort of factory OC 5700XT. So far my favorite would be the Sapphire Nitro, followed by the ASUS Strix, and then the Powercolor Red Devil - and they are all three completely sold out. However, when I can settle on something, I expect these drivers to be rather a welcome change from the NVIDIA experience.

NVIDIA Vulkan beta driver 435.19.02, plus 435.21 stable driver released
2 Sep 2019 at 3:05 am UTC

Yeah, I updated my system and then rebooted to run the driver to find this :

Now I absolutely refuse to reset systemctl back to graphical because I know it's broken and it will be a PITA. So I'm on CentOS until I figure this out.

EDIT: Yep, a compiler mismatch.

EDIT 2: In this case, --no-cc-version-check option after the NVIDIA*.run actually worked. Just thinking back to my Windows days when I just would have nuked the whole install. God, I can't wait to get my 3900X/RX5700XT built.

pyLinuxWheel and Oversteer, two open source tools for managing Steering Wheels on Linux

Just in time - I found out about the first person driving mod for GTA5 with wheel support the other day. Have to dust off the G25 when I get the Ryzen3900X built. And maybe someday there will be a legal way to acquire the first Test Drive Unlimited game from like ten years ago which I used to teach myself how to drive an H-pattern and now I won't buy anything without one.

Steam Play Proton 4.11 released, a pretty huge release pulling in D9VK and a replacement for esync

Quoting: Dunc
Quoting: jarhead_hAt this point I genuinely cannot understand why there would be any Linux gamers left who aren't on Steam. Don't talk to me about DRM, because Valve has done more for Linux's future this past year I think than any other company I can name.
I'm no fan of DRM, but here's the thing: I've been gaming for (well) over 30 years....
Same.

Quoting: DuncWhat does bother me is always-online and cloud saving. I tried to play GTAV offline on my XBox 360 a few weeks ago, and it turns out a) I can't load my old saves, and b) I can't save my progress from a new game. I've got a physical copy, and it still runs. But there's no point in playing it. That's way more worrying than snake-oil DRM.
This does not apply to Steam because of Steam's Offline mode. The thing we have to worry about is Valve going out of business. Steam is only fifteen years old, or already fifteen years old depending on how you want to look at it.

Don't talk to me about DRM, because Valve has done more for Linux's future this past year I think than any other company I can name. They are using resources on us cannot be justified with the current userbase and I believe that deserves reciprocity. I'm not saying you have to re-buy your GOG library over on Steam, but you should really start buying stuff there if you aren't already.

You keep saying that you want to reward developers that support Linux, well I'd say that Valve counts.

Ubisoft and Epic Games are now supporting Blender development

Great, EPIC and Ubi are now supporting open source tools.... but not open source operating systems.

Quoting: WendigoI wish they'd use the money for the new game engine. (just dreaming)
There's really no need, not with Godot now in the picture. Eventually we won't need Epic or Ubi any more than we need Adobi, Autodesk, Microsoft, etc right now.

Quoting: Alm888I wonder, what Autodesk® had done to piss these guys off so much that they openly started undermining its dominance by supporting the direct competitor?

Usually, Big Bucks Companies stick to each other.
The only problem with Maya and 3DSMAX is their price. For indies/hobbyist Blender is the way to go and I think that Unity and Epic wants to reduce newcomers costs.
Blender is good enough now that is starting to be used in television. It won't be long and it will be the primary software for lower budget animated features, especially with GreasePencil.

What have you been playing and what are your thoughts?

Road Redemption and Steel Rats. Both good and running on Steam.

Double Fine Productions have delayed Psychonauts 2 until next year, all versions still planned

Microsoft buys studio and now game is delayed. The last time this happened Halo went from being a squad based open world shooter on Windows and Mac to being an XBOX exclusive on rails. And don't get me started on what they did to Oni.

Steel Rats, the Unreal Engine powered 2.5D motorbike combat action game is now out for Linux using Vulkan

Quoting: ronnocSo what's the overall concensus so far from Linux gamers? It looks interesting. Torn between picking up this, or Salt and Sanctuary next.
I've got it on Steam. It's surprisingly good. I'm still in the first third of it because I really don't game more than a few hours a week now, but I'm liking it.
