AMD reveal details on Ryzen 9 3950X and Radeon RX 5700 at E3

Quoting: GuestNo one here spooked by the fan on X570 motherboards ? (And their prices)
Are you kidding? I just added an 850 watt PSU to my Amazon shopping cart and I'm pulling the trigger Friday. In August I'm buying the ASUS Crosshair 570, whatever 32GB DDR4 quad channel kit is recommended, the 12 core Ryzen 9, a PCIE4.0 1TB NVME, and a few months later I will be topping it off with one of these 5700XTs and an 1440p 32in LG Qdot monitor. This will be my first completely new rig in ten years. My first time in ten years not stuck at 1080p 60hz because I'm using a TV. My first time in ten years that I'm not using an AMD platform PC strictly because it's the only one I can afford but instead because it just plain kicks ass. And I'm upgrading from a PhenomII 960T in a socket AM3 mobo(not even AM3+), so I'm actually going to notice THE DIFFERENCE.

I MIGHT have to recycle a Samsung 840 EVO SSD until some company can get a reliable PCIE4.0 NVME out. BooHoo. II have decided to postpone upgrading to 4K until bare minimum Summer 2020 because the industry just doesn't have that ready yet, either on the GPU side or the monitor side. I haven't decided on the distro yet. I'm torn between PopOS and Fedora30, with F30 being what I'm using right now.

Going to need this machine to edit video for a Youtube channel. Also, I couldn't believe it, but a few of those trailers from E3 other than DOOM Eternal looked like they might be worth trying, especially the stuff from SquareEnix.

So the first thing that I'm going to do is install Mankind Divided, Arkham Knight, Sniper Elite 3+4, the New Wolfensteins, FFX/X-2, and anything else that I haven't installed yet due to some hardware limitation that delivers a completely subpar experience.

AMD officially announce the "Zen 2" Ryzen 3 series & new RDNA GPU architecture + Intel tease new CPU

I have been on AMD since socket 939 purely out of money problems and am still using a PhenomII as my main rig. I was already committed to a new Ryzen build this year no matter what. I wasn't expecting AMD to go for Intel's throat but there it is, and I must admit that it's making me smile. I'm gonna find a way to afford that Ryzen 9 chip with an ASUS Crosshair 570.

Three straight NVIDIA xx60 series gpus. This Navi looks interesting. For end of year along with that ~$350 LG Qdot 1440P 144hz monitor. CPU+MOBO+DDR4+PCI4-NVME+PSU this summer. 4K maybe next year or year after once we get a 43in 4K 120hz HDR 4:4:4 with either HDMI2.1 or the new display port that isn't finalized yet. I want to go 4K for movies because I don't have a stand alone TV, my desktop is my TV, game system, stereo, movie player - all of it. It's even my main system for 3d printing right now.

So far Gigabyte and Corsair both have announced PCIE4.0 NVME drives. Samsung and the others can't be far behind.

id Software going all-in with Vulkan, some interesting details about that and Linux for Stadia

I won't be using Stadia just because it's Google, and I'm still in process of cutting Google out of my life so adding something back in would be rather counter-productive. I still have Chrome installed for those rare instances I need Flash since it's baked in and I still have an Android phone which will be replaced by a Librem5 by end of year. And I have a GMAIL account so that I can have a Youtube account which I will actually start producing content for in a month or two and hopefully the Patreon/SuscribeStar/LibrePay dollars will come trickling in... which will then allow me to dump Youtube for Bitchute and get rid of gmail.

Psyonix, creator of Rocket League is joining Epic Games (updated)

As far as I understand, Valve terms of service for publishers is that once a game is purchased on their platform, the user has rights to it for the duration of the existence of their account. That doesn't mean that Linux users will ever get another update, or even guaranty that they will continue to be able to log in to the network.

As for EPIC, Sweeny himself has made no secret of his contempt for our tribe, so I see no reason to support him in any way, give him any benefit of doubt, and indeed, I see him and EPIC as active enemies of Linux as they are attacking Valve right as Valve has publicly given our platform such as boost, not only with Proton, but in contributing to DXVK, WINE, etc. SO, no, At this point, undermining Steam is now undermining the growth of Linux. I don't care what games EPIC manages to pull, until they match Valve's commitment to Linux EPIC can go pound sand, and we should actively sabotage them wherever we can as they are sabotaging us.

You can now easily run the Epic Store on Linux with Lutris, Epic suggests applying for a grant

If you want to use WINE to help pay his electric bill, go for it. I'll stick with Steam and GOG.

Aspyr Media confirm the free "Ultra HD" DLC for Borderlands 2 and The Pre-Sequel is coming to Linux

Quoting: BielFPsNice news. Unfortunately since Borderlands 3 will be Epic Store exclusive, I have almost no hope about having a linux version (with is bad since I'm a big fan of the Borderlands series)
Hey, if Gearbox doesn't want our money, screw 'em. In this case it's only six months, so get it on a Steam winter/Summer sale a year after it releases. Apparently there's a $250 preorder package available for the game. None of us are going to order that because it requires Windows. I haven't heard, is the EPIC store running via WINE yet?

Quoting: jarhead_hSo far I'm starting to pile up No-DVD/No-Uplay cracks because a good number of my games run fine once you get rid of the second layer of DRM after Steam.
Have you come across a solution to whatever the problem is, which inhibits Assassin's Creed II & Brotherhood retrieving a 'product key' so they can install at all?
Not specifically for Assasin's Creed series. However, MegaGames has cracks for every title that I searched for. FC3+Blood Dragon both work. I haven't tried Watch_Dogs yet, but that's on the list. You just copy the cracked .exe over the standard .exe and then the game will fire right up. Oh, this is also required for Warhammer40K:Space Marine which is finally working.

AC, AC2, ACBro are on the list once I get a steady paycheck coming in again, but right now I only have physical copies of those so I would have to play them in WINE proper. Although AC3 really ruined that series for me. I finished that game feeling like Ubisoft should have paid me for playing it. It wasn't a game, it was a second job. And a tedious one at that.

So far I'm starting to pile up No-DVD/No-Uplay cracks because a good number of my games run fine once you get rid of the second layer of DRM after Steam. I had Batman Arkham Asylum working until I updated to 4.2 and 418.56 and suddenly it doesn't work.

Quoting: scaineSo I'd really like to say "Only show me Proton 4.2 reports, and only for Nvidia". And if I can get a "Only Ubuntu", so much the better.
Quoting: BielFPsIsn't only Nvidia already? :)

The vast majority of reports there are from Nvidia users. It's understandable since until not long ago, Amd was crap with linux, but at the same time it's sad to see most people using products for a company that doesn't care about helping open source.
Know the feeling. I am on my third NVIDIA card straight. I WANTED an RX580, and the week my 660GtX died was the one they all disappeared thanks to the crypto-miners. So I have my 1060GTX, but dammit I WANT to go AMD.

WRATH: Aeon of Ruin is the new FPS from 3D Realms, coming to Linux this Summer

Hmmmmmmm....... something that I had never considered for indie game development - a major developer deliberately choosing to use outdated engines for cheap new games. Quake is fully open sourced, and if memory serves is a straight C++ affair.

I bet this saves a lot of time. And they can focus on art direction, voice acting, etc. Because those are the things that you notice after a few hours of gameplay.

A reminder about Steam's platform-specific wishlist feature you should be using
23 Feb 2019 at 4:20 pm UTC

This feature seems a well intentioned waste of time, specially since the introduction of Proton. Maybe this made sense for people that didn't bother with WINE, but with Proton all it's really doing is obscuring Windows games that we might want to play that we now can with little to no hassle. As long as you quit dual booting and run all your new Windows titles through Steamplay it counts as a Linux sale which accomplishes what this was intended for, unless I'm missing something.
