Techland show how hilarious it is when a Linux port has no quality control with Dying Light (updated)
10 Dec 2015 at 5:26 pm UTC

I'm not gonna rant, cuz' I know I've developed a hate boner for Techland. Even so, Dying light was the most money I've spent on a game in a long time, and it was one of the most disappointing and frustrating gaming experiences I've had on Linux. I wish Steam's refund policy had been reformed when the game cane out, so I wouldn't have wasted so much my time trying to get a sub-par at best game running :><: (although, while I'm admitting my biases, games like this, Dead Island, and Borderlands were never my cup of tea to start with  )

The Dark Mod became more graphically impressive in their last update

Ooh, maybe I'll give it another go, although the combat always threw me for a loop. And I believe you can Alt+Tab if you enter the game's console with ~

Steam Machines, Steam Link & Steam Controller Officially Released & SteamOS Sale

The only thing that really disappoints me is Rocket League. It's not my most anticipated game, but how are you gonna offer it with steam machine pre-orders (advertising it with the SteamOS icon no less) and then they can't bothered to finish by time of release. Just seems unprofessional to me :/

Don't get me wrong, I was also hoping for some big releases; especially after you lot kept building the anticipation ;) But the more I think about it, people buying Steam Machines today already have a fairly large library to look at, and if they're from a console background there's bound to be some titles they have played yet. Some devs might also be avoiding launching the same week as Fallout 4.

GOL Game Jam Has Entered Rating Phase

Quoting: SabunSweet, I didn't know about this. I just wanted to say, I'm impressed with your platformer. I've personally tried Gdevelop and I was surprised to see you be able to do so much within a week with it. Good job :)
Aw, you're too kind, really :P <3 And it was more like what I did in a couple days, between work and other engagements (and *cough* laziness) I got like 5% of what I wanted done. What was done was pretty simple, especially since Gdevelop has some presets for platforming physics; but I thank you for the kind words all the same :)

And your game was certainly ambitious, as any 3D game done in a week sounds ambitious to this scrub, and I was also impressed with the amount of stuff you got done. If I were to put on my critique hat, however, I probably would've suggested a smaller more linear layout, like a tight corridor DOOM style shooter. After a bit I didn't see a point in venturing out for the crates surrounded by zombies to shoot said zombies; in other words, I didn't feel like I had a goal. Also the actual shooting isn't too satisfying as the zombies are pretty slow and non-threatening in an open area as well as being bullet sponges, though it does get a bit tense in the tree area.

All that said, great effort and I'll be following you to see how you future games progress :) And keep in mind this criticism comes from a lazy git who made half a level and watches too many game design videos XD

Well done, all. As said in my entry, mine was woefully incomplete, but I do intend on getting a couple of complete games under my belt before the next jam :)

For those interested in Unity and more narrative based games, I definitely recommend checking out Fungus [External Link]; it's a free toolset for Unity that can be found on the asset store. It's got some really good utilities such as flow charts, dialogue systems, camera and sprite animation, and such that requires little programming knowledge :D

This is usually not my thing. The game looks good though.

Square Enix doesn't have a lot of Linux support, they appear to have something to do with Wakfu, but are not listed on the Steam store page. I think Avalanche Studios has no Linux supported games yet. So I'm not getting my hopes up.
Yes but Mad max [External Link] which is officially confirmed for linux is also developed by Avalanche Studios, though the difference there is the publisher, so there is still a chance!
Is it officially confirmed?

Er, hate to be the bearer of bad news, but Liam has said they've gone completely silent on Linux since the release of the game. I wouldn't hold your breath :/

Linux Prototype Available For Platformer RPG Indivisible From Skullgirls Developer

Quoting: fleskMore vertical space and passages hidden behind walls that can be broken through would make them a bit more interesting. I like how the game hints at what you can do with an axe by placing an axe stuck in a wall the first place you have any reason to use this ability.
It took me a sec to figure that out, since all I did previously was cut down vines and take cheap shots at enemies with it :P After going back to what I thought I was a dead end I finally noticed the axe and I was like "Wait... OHHH *o*". I'm glad I didn't spoil it by watching the video first, as I really dig simple wordless design like that ^^

Pledged $60, I'm pretty sold ^^ As far as crowdfunding goes, it seems like a pretty safe bet; an established dev with a great demo and a clearly laid out plan, that's the way to do it :)

I found the combat a bit confusing and overwhelming at first, but I started to get the hang of it. I'm really glad Zero Lab is going for a different genre, as they do beautiful work but I'm not much for fighting games.

I'm also glad there seems to be a bit less boobage and such in this. It didn't bother me much, as the characters certainly had a lot of character and love put into them, but it still felt a bit distracting to me, personally. Though my close friend whose a girl didn't seem to be bothered in the slightest, so that's probably just my own quirk :P
