Valve Is Trolling Us With A New Half-Life 3 Leak
11 Oct 2015 at 12:25 am UTC

As someone who's first exposure to Half Life was the Orange Box series on the 360, I can't say I'm super fond of it. I played the HL2 games quite a few times (as I had a lot of time and few games), and then finally the original a few years ago, which admittedly is a bit of a blur.

The HL2 series is really well designed, enough that I'll certainly play the third should it come out; However, I could never get completely immersed. This could be a very personal thing, but something about the way you and the guns handle never felt quite right to me. And the game overall has always felt quite "engine"-y to me, if that makes sense. It also tends to have a bit of that "Theme-park" effect where I never feel like I'm too much a part of the story. I'm on the Pirates of The Combine ride, watching colorful characters act out a drama while I fuck with their personal things laying about :P

The GOL Game Jam Is Really Happening Soon!

Do games that run in browser count? I don't know yet if I'll participate, as I'm trying a lot of things at the moment, however if I do I know of a couple of engines will create an html5 game, rather than an executable. I might give it a shot with one of those if Unity3D proves to be too challenging (or unstable on Linux).

Either way, I can't wait to see what the actual devs who frequent this site come up with :)

Alien: Isolation Delayed For Linux

Maaan, what a bummer :/ And they literally announced the date a week ago! I'd think the week before release would be spent putting the bow and wrapping paper on (I'm obviously not a dev, mind), I wonder what could've come up?

And before I come off too salty, I've been on a bit of a kick since playing SOMA and The Talos Principle, and some retro Alien sci-fi would really hit the spot right now. But I'll still wait patiently and purchase it the day it does come out, and I really appreciate the good work Feral does for us penguins. Though a bit of transparency wouldn't go amiss here ;)

SOMA, Frictional Games Latest Horror & Adventure Game Released For Linux, Some Initial Thoughts

Quoting: CybolicI think it really helps with the immersion. I usually dislike it in other games, but it fits very well here, in my opinion.
Different strokes for different folks, yeah? I think the video distortion works pretty well. It literally obscures your vision, but it serves the purpose of both obscuring enemies so we can't oggle them at our leisure (as in AMFP), and quickly communicates that you should quickly relocate your eyeballs, and probably everything else, to a safer locale.

The most terrifying moment I've had so far was running into a new enemy. I quickly ran and cowered behind a table, I caught sight of it in the doorway, accompanied by some static, so I looked away and hoped it'd go away. I was temporarily relieved when I looked back at an empty doorway before shrieking when I turned to exit my hiding place: he was directly in front of me and everything got washed by white noise and terror XD

Oh really? That's good news, for some reason I didn't expect to have a graphical option like that under Colour.
Neither did I, a dev mentioned it on the forums. I felt a bit bad for him, he gave a meek request for people to give it a chance before turning it off; but it makes playing feel and look worse imo :v

I'm about 2 hours in and really enjoying it so far. As Liam says, I quite enjoy the theme in this one over Amnesia or Penumbra (though I enjoy them both). I'm glad it isn't as stressful as ADD so far. I think my favorite previous Frictional game was Black Plague, which also wasn't too stressful, and had other characters to interact with so everything didn't feel so empty and hopeless; and this game reminds of of that, though the puzzles are not quite as interesting, the story a pace are quite good thus far.

Point-And-Click Adventure 'Dropsy' Has Been Released, Some Initial Thoughts

Doesn't seem to work with multiple monitors; anyone have a fix?

edit: Okay, it'll open with multi monitors now, but the resolution is offset to the right, despite none of it showing up on the second screen. After disabling my other monitor I was able to change to windowed mode in the settings.

Lovers In A Dangerous Spacetime Released For Linux, It Pukes Love & Rainbows At You

I just had to change the resolution back to standard 1080p in the options menu, so not too bad. Looks pretty cute, I'll probably wait until I can play with mah girlfriend though (so hopefully it's not too stressful) :3

Satellite Reign Strategy Game Released For Linux, Some Impressions

I feel like I would've loved this game more were some kind of turn-based hybrid. As it stands I find controlling the agents kinda janky in the heat of combat or coordinating four separate agents in a compound. And the goals of your missions tend to be sending someone into a guarded garage; different context each time, but same garage more or less.

That said, there's a lot to love about this game. I'm a sucker for cyberpunk, the atmosphere's pretty great. I also love the hacking mechanics :)
