Youtube Are Being Stupid On Video Monetization Yet Again
30 May 2014 at 1:04 am UTC

Quoting: stssI've always disliked the idea of monetizing youtube videos in general.
The only thing it achieves is to generate content that is produced for the sole purpose of earning money, reducing the quality of things and even producing fakes.
On the other hand, it means creative people can make a living from doing things they enjoy for people who want to see it. I fail to see how monetary incentive would reduce quality, if anything it seems like it drives creators to keep up the work. Also, please elaborate on 'fakes'.

Quoting: stssand the idea of monetizing gaming videos is even worse. Encouraging people to play games and make content because they can earn money is just one example of a mindset that's ruining gaming.
On the contrary, I think Let's Players and Youtube reviewers are strengthening a culture of criticism in gaming. The attention of gamers is no longer in the hands of the Games industry, which is presently engaging in misleading hype, pre-order culture, and walled-garden mindset. Instead a lot of it has gone to just regular gamers who put themselves on Youtube and aren't in the pockets of publishers.

How is this ruining gaming?

Leadwerks Game Engine To Launch On Ubuntu Software Centre

Quoting: HadBabitsAs for Leadwerks, I backed it, and have a copy of the Indie Edition. Unfortunately, when I tried it you had to do some serious workarounds to get it working on Mint (seems it was made with Ubuntu in mind). Hopefully that's been changed, otherwise I'd say they're being pretty short-sighted.
I would imagine that would have to be seriously Ubuntu tied if it were not to function well on Mint. :S
As I recall, it had some Ubuntu-specific dependencies. I think it was something for Unity.

Yeah, I got burned with the USC when it came to buying Limbo. Bought it on there, switched to Mint, never got that copy. (Fortunately it was on a bundle sometime after.

The IndieBox, Get A Fancy Boxed Copy & Extras Of A Linux Supported Game Every Month
23 May 2014 at 1:05 pm UTC

Man, I've been psyched since I found out about this last night. I was hoping to do this article when I got home, but I see now I'll have to start writing them at work on my phone if I want to keep up ;)

Quoting: TheIndieBoxWe're working on a FAQ page that explains all of that before you have to register. Current shipping rates are as follows: US - $3 / Canada - $8 / Everywhere Else - $13
While you're working on that; care to say what time of the month the games actually go out? I just subscribed and I'm already too excited :P

Calibre 10 Racing Series Linux Version Possibility Is Based On Demand

Looks like they may try to crowd fund it:

Wow, we are impressed the feedback on a potential linux version. Right now porting to Linux is out of our budget. Eventually going to Kickstarter to fund a Linux version could be interesting - what do you guys think of it?

Paranautical Activity Cancels Co-Op And Draws More Ire For Early Access

Quoting: liamdaweThere is no reason to get rid of Early Access that's going overboard, there's a lot to like about it.

Like with everything, you have good apples and bad apples. In this case it's somewhere in-between.

No matter what you do, there will always be bad points.
True, but it appears to be generating quite a bit of hate. I don't think it should be done away with, just moved more to the side. It should be targeted more at people who really want to help devs shape their game. I understand that many use it as a means to fund their game, but it just reminds me of pre-order culture, but instead of buying a game before you even know it's good, you buy it before it's finished.
