ΔV: Rings of Saturn continues to be popular with Linux gamers

Quoting: devlandGreat news but it seems from the graphs that they're biased towards Linux themselves. The numbers float around 5 and 6% yet the bars do not reflect that. I remember back when nvidia pulled this trick to showcase some performance boost people got really angry.
I figured the important message is to showcase change from quarter to quarter, so the chart is scaled to showcase that. I was afraid that when the game goes big (and it did got ~1000% increase in popularity in December) the Linux % will be dwarfed by players - but it was not. Which means that supporting Linux scales. Which in turn made me really happy.

ΔV: Rings of Saturn's demo appears to help sales, now lets you save your game

The main adjustments done recently mean you can save in the demo but you're now limited to 30 days in-game time, which is still very generous.
That's not entirely accurate. You can save all the time, just as you could previously, but now you can load these saves in the demo, as long as less than 30 days passed in game. Previously, you just could not load, period. This is purely extending what you can do in the demo.

5.8% sales and over 38% of bug reports from Linux said one dev but it's been helpful

Quoting: tfkI really would like to know how the percentage of Linux users is determined. If I buy from my phone would the sale be counted as windows or Linux?
On Steam:
Linux sales are based on platform of purchase; or after 7 days, the platform with the most minutes played
So... as long as you play after purchasing, you count.

ΔV: Rings of Saturn now gives the full game in the demo, with one catch

Of course itch.io demo is exactly the same - it would not make sense to do that otherwise :)

Checking up on the latest huge updates to sci-fi mining game, Rings of Saturn

Quoting: Purple Library GuySooo . . . physics is accurate, but astrogators not only don't have computers to keep track of things, they can't even jot down co-ordinates in a notebook. Um, sure.
I can go into detail into science behind that. Tracking coordinates in Rings is hit hard by butterfly effect - ringroids collide with one-another all the time, and even if you record location and velocity of everything around a point that interests you, your measurements will not be ideally precise, and you don't have full data on composition of everything in vicinity to predict all the movement in long term. Errors accumulate over time, and telescopic visual identification is not really feasible for small objects.

Ultimately, astrogator doesn't don't have a coordinate but a quite complex probability-of-location function that degrades over time. On a side note, the time an astrogator can track a location is skill-dependent - good one can predict where POI is over a course of a month.

The dev of Rings of Saturn thinks going cross-platform 'paid off'

Quoting: FratmI had not heard of this game, but since I have a nice credit from refunding Rust, I bought it! :) maybe that will increase the Linux stats by .01% ;)
Much appreciated - but please, don't buy my game just for this reason! We got some polarized love-hate reactions from players (which is, in itself, better than "meh"), and now I just hope you will not end up hating it.

Putting a Linux game on Steam: Missing Executable - a common pitfall for game devs
13 Aug 2019 at 12:56 pm UTC Likes: 11

The setting itself is actually a bit of Gotcha, because Linux builds work for all Beta and generated keys *except* actual purchase. That's how it slipped my attention - we have quite a few Linux players testing the game, but they all had keys, so this didn't affect them.

I'm really glad Liam pointed the solution out for me, I lost half of previous night trying to figure it out.

The free and open source game engine 'Godot Engine' is closing in on the big 3.1 release

"ΔV: Rings of Saturn" is made with Godot 3.1, with full Linux support. You can grab a free demo from Steam or Itch.

Rings of Saturn, the hard sci-fi top-down space sim delayed until next year, demo now available

Quoting: Purple Library GuySo like, if I take over the whole place can I be the Lord of the Rings?
Gods above, I'm SO going to make that happen.

Rings of Saturn is a hard sci-fi, top-down space simulator coming soon to Linux

Quoting: Kels"Top" down in space. :S:
Surprisingly, the titular Rings are quite flat ;)

The 2D top-down representation was chosen as a gameplay device - for variety of reasons. From players perspective, adding third dimension to a game where you are expected to control thrusters directly ramps up the difficulty by order of magnitude. Spotting collision points with asteroids in 3D is also challenging - in 2D you have a lot more confidence when maneuvering in high-density areas.

And yes, there will be Linux support on day one. I even have builds working on Linux in betatests right now.
