Raspberry Pi OS upgraded based on Debian 12 'Bookworm'

You'll also get a a "Raspberry Pi-optimised" version of Mozilla Firefox, that brings with it enabled V4L2 codec support for better video performance, support for Widevine DRM for video streaming services and work on enabling cameras for video calling.
That's a pretty huge deal for the "desktop replacement" crowd.

For me, this, together with the better pi5 performance, basically means that I can stop complaining about how lenovo's keyboards are getting worse and worse and go for a tex shinobi with pi5, power bank, and portable screen when my good old t420 dies.
But as far I can see the Pi5 has only HEVC Decode in Hardware. So it helps nothing with youtube (h264, VP9, AV1) or any other Video Platform. So Video decode is still on the CPU and all above FullHD will not be smooth

A developer made a ShadowPlay-like high-performance recording tool for Linux

I did a short compare with the Superposition Benchmark
without recording 63.95fps
gpu-recorder 63,78
obs fbc + nvenc 60,62fps

so gpu recorder performs better (in this situation) but obs is not so bad.

I give it a try and recorded this with the tool
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rxYvLDmgirw [External Link]

so a few suggestions for the future

- support more audio streams (one stream is good for streaming but bad for recording)
- save location should be saved
- an export mode where you can change the encoder settings a bit more
- maybe a bit more information what the different quality options mean

@dec05eba

Without the possibility to record more audio streams, this Tool is not good for record.
I want edit my Voice and the Gameplay audio after record.

Quoting: dubigrasuThe demo is Linux native.
It's only showing Windows for me.
Ignore that, it does have a Linux version, they probably forgot/didn't bothered to update the steam page.

Might wanna force the vulkan build with -force-vulkan since the OpenGL build is somewhat under-performing.
in the full version the game did freeze for me with vulkan. I can use the menu but if I start a game the game freezes in the loading screen.

Feral no longer porting A Total War Saga: TROY to Linux, citing less demand since Proton

There is demand for native ports. But if Feral needs months or years to port a game, than I can't blame the people who try proton instead. Games need to be ready on day-1 or a few days after. But not many people want to wait of proton is a working solution.

Commandos 2 - HD Remaster has been released for Linux

Quoting: ErzfeindHow is it? The Windows release had plenty of bugs / issues. Are they finally resolved?
the linux version has new bugs. the vulkan renderer is very buggy (they used a 2018 unity build) but -force-glcore fixes most of the bugs.

Space station management with a little RTS, Spacebase Startopia is out now

it seems they forget to encode the videos in a format that unity can play on linux. ok there are only a hand full of videos and you open and view it in the game folder, but this could have been seen in a quality check

Steam's top releases for August 2019 are out, here's our usual look over

Quoting: MordragWell i am kinda of a different opinion. Steam Play should be primarily for users who dont want to mess with wine to run a game. So if you need to apply workarounds to even play a Game that is clearly for me borked.
If the Game is playable but has Graphical Glitches or occasionally crashes that is silver.
If the Game runs good but minor Glitches can occur, or the game doesnt really perform as good as native its gold.
And Platinum is like Native.
What you are talking about is more like the Wine Rating on winehq, but Steam Play is also for linux/wine noobs.
what is "like native" for you. maybe like some native linux games where the game runs much better with proton?
or same performance like on windows? I will not install a dualboot to test this ;-)
If the game runs without any errors out of the box for me with good performance (best ingame settings on the recommended or better hardware) then it is platinum for me.

But if we look at "Man of Medan" this is a good example for a wrong rating. The game can't be gold, because some game elemnts (videos) don't work. you can play the game without it because the not very important but this should bring the rating down to silver.

SteamPlay is only for noobs as long as they don't force it for all games. If you want run unsupported games you maybe will have some little work sometimes.
