Tales of Maj'Eyal Roguelike RPG Now On Steam For Linux
16 Dec 2013 at 3:20 pm UTC

I've been playing this game for a long time. Best rogue-like game I've played (or at least the one I've sunk the most time into). I donated long before Steam was talked about. But it may be worth noting that by getting the Steam Launch Edition you get the Steam DLC which gives you a new UI skin. I like that skin a lot and it was well worth it. Plus this game is awesome and the guy is pretty much funding it all off donations from people. He deserves the extra support for making this.

Pandora: First Contact Linux Gameplay Video & My Thoughts

Do you think the game is a good buy? My buddy watched a video of it and said it reminded him too much of Civ 5, which he hated. I saw the research victory and kind of turned away from it. The tech tree looked too limited to not reach that victory rather fast. The video I saw the guy was probably 50% into the tech 20 minutes into the game and he hadn't even engaged in combat.

I loved Alpha Centauri, I had games that lasted up to a week of game play. Also the last game I played like was Warlock Master of the Arcane, which I found enjoyable. Not sure how close this is to that if you've had a chance to play that.

Megabyte Punch 2D Fighting Platformer Now On Steam For Linux

I picked this up directly from their site awhile ago. I really like it and I've just about beat it. I think first day I sat down for 13 hours straight and played. I would recommend a controller.

I can see the reason they may have opted for local co-op only. First would be lag. A fighting game doesn't lend itself to online multiplayer without a middle man server. Otherwise someone will always get cheated out of something because a delay in actions and sync issues. So to solve that they would have had to create a server to handle, validate, and keep in sync all player actions. That would have added cost. Also, from my experience with Unity, I'm not entirely sure how easy that is. It does make direct play pretty easy to setup but also a little confusing.
