Quoting: Segata SanshiroWhat really put me off the site though is this mac-like cultish devotion to the distribution

Looking at the figures for the GOL poll, I can already say that those stats are WAY different. It's a shame though that GOL doesn't have the readership to pull off 7,000 responses (the poll is currently at around 10% of that) considering this is a much better site in almost every respect.
I wouldn't call people who duel boot to Windows "cultists". It's pure pragmatism (ie, the opposite).

And Ubuntu is the most popular distro, it's also the target distro for Linux builds. Again, it's pretty straight-forward if you "just want to play games". Go with the two OSs that are mostly likely to work (or more importantly, are supported).

Why diss people for choosing Ubuntu? Punch up, not down/sideways.

i like how they push linux but the idea of steam within gnu/linux is perverting the actual idea of free software. what we trade here is freedom for convenience and the sole reason i go along with it is that i hope when steam dies off one day (and it will, all does eventually) it will have pushed linux a little. whenever i can i buy my games in DRM free fashion and dodge steam like the plague. i like what they do to push the developement of linux but still i see it as a trade with the devil.
I don't want the hassle of installing games, I don't want the hassle of backing up save games, I don't want the hassle of physical media. (And lets not forget that SteamOS is not a walled garden - you can always install from other sources.) These are far greater freedoms that we gain than what we lose with having steam as the primary (but not only) platform for distributing games.

Steam FTW.

Humble Indie Bundle 12 Launches With Lots Of Great Games

Quoting: GuestNo new ports in this bundle? This may disappoint some people, but not me.
I reckon, it's pretty fantastic that these are ready to install and are all done with the teething problems. (Although I believe Gunpoint was converted to an upgraded GameMaker version to support Linux probably for a Bundle.)

Puppy Games Aren't Impressed With Linux Sales (UPDATED)

I bought their Weekly Bundle (a while back). I didn't really spend much time with them (not my bag), but they seemed like well-made games for sure.

The business is hard, and the notion that eventually your hard work will pay off is nonsense. It's not even about having the best game, really. It's 80% luck. And I don't mean that in that those that have (and will) fail, do so because they didn't work hard enough.

They worked hard, they paid their dues, they just weren't lucky enough.
