AOKZOE are the latest to attempt a Steam Deck rival with the AOKZOE A1

They appear to be lacking a lot of the buttons/controls the Steam Deck offers. Ie, no digital aiming input is a big one. They will have to undercut the Steam Deck considerably to make up for this.

Action Quake 2 (AQtion), considered the 'precursor' to Counter-Strike now on Steam

Having been a gamer at this time, I would agree. I would say AQ2 likely also spawned Urban Terror and True Combat: Elite.

Twitter agrees to Elon Musk buyout, a reminder we're on Mastodon

Musk's buyout of Twitter might just be enough to convince me to use it. It was nothing but an echo chamber for the left prior to the buyout, and frankly, that's boring to read and really nauseating. Neutrality is very much welcomed.

Erik Wolpaw to Valve on Portal 3 — 'we should just do it'

Quoting: EikeI can understand frustration there. Imagine you were a software developer working for a cool company with some of the coolest franchises out there - and you're not allowed to work on them, for years, for decades maybe...
As I understand Valve's corporate structure, it's the employees who more or less decide the direction of the company. So it's not like there are a bunch of people champing at the bit to make new games but the bosses won't let them. If enough people got together and decided they wanted to make Half-Life 3, or Portal 3, or whatever, Gabe wouldn't stop them. The real question is why there's no momentum internally to get those projects rolling.
There is the infamous Valve employee handbook [External Link].
Infamous? It's a wonderful handbook. More organizations should adopt a Teal organizational structure like Valve has. It's the reason for their excellent innovation over the years. More details on Teal organizations [External Link].

It looks like a more retro 0 A.D. or Age of Empires. Will be following this one.

Ion Fury: Aftershock expansion gets delayed with no set date now

Ion Fury is definitely my favourite retro shooter of the past few years. Happy to wait for the team to create the quality they feel called to bring.

I avoid all games with 3rd party launchers. Either direct launch from Steam or no purchase. Simple as that.

Dying Light gets a cross-play update

Techland really is a good developer. I'm glad to support them with my wallet. I'll be getting Dying Light 2 when I get the time to really commit to it.

PipeWire is the future for Linux audio and I am sold on it

I recently made the switch as well. For whatever reason, 0 AD's audio stopped working for me on Arch. I hopped over to PipeWire and it worked without issue.
