Cemu emulator for Wii U now provides an AppImage

Quoting: M@GOidI wish Appimage became more widespread. So many projects have a Linux port but don't provide a convenient way to use the thing. Meanwhile those same projects don't have a problem providing a Windows executable.

That just contribute to the bad look Linux have among Windows users "I don't use Linux because I don't want to compile a program to use it".
its not the developers fault if we dont have an standard on linux like windows have with .exe, we are just now making those techs that work across distros and even with then some distros chose to not support all of then or offer a crap support so we still have to solve "political problems" before we can solve "techinical" ones, not to mention is a bit hard to make those packages last time i checked.

but hey, if you think otherwise you can always package yourself once they relase the source code...
Windows has a standard thing to do with .exe? Since when. A exe is just an executable, just like a executable file on linux. Which can do just about ANYTHING from opening the program to installing. And ye sure you can't "just" move an executable under linux and expect it to work. But the same goes for windows.

Minetest is more of a ham sandwich where minecraft is a fullblown buffet. It doesn't come even remotely close enough yet. Which I find extremely sad, I've been wanting to play mc again for years but I'm not gonna link a ms account.

Sorry Arch (EndeavourOS), it's not working out any more and hello Fedora

Quoting: dosIn my experience, Arch is really stable for a rolling distro (although I'd like pacman to be a bit more robust, but it's generally good enough). However, it explicitly requires regular maintenance efforts, and not everyone is willing (or able) to do that.

Which is fine, there are different distributions for people with different needs.
I had like... one manual update action required when systemd started integrating homed because of my ldap logins across years of using arch...
Sometimes I really wonder what people do with their pcs :P

The legendary classic Supaplex series comes to Linux on Steam

First game I ever put hundred of hours in.. ever. If you hadn't said it's not the original devs I would have bought it in a heartbeat despite never wanting to launch it these days.

Get Surviving Mars and expansions in the latest Humble Bundle plus a big sale

Quoting: MakiSince Humble Bundle is trying to alienate Linux users, I don't want to give them more money.

They have successfully lost me as a customer.

Wow. That is the extra fuck you mile.
I think I only got like.. 2 humble bundles at most (usually because like this one I already have it... I'd call it worth it with ease but you know...) But never anything humble anymore.

OpenRazer 3.2.0 brings more device support for Razer fans on Linux
13 Dec 2021 at 12:23 pm UTC Likes: 3

Quoting: ripper81358The support of gamingperipherals is clearly something where linux as a desktop OS needs to improve. For someone switching over from Windows it is just not acceptable that changing the OS leaves most if not all the equipment you own nonfunctional.

However choosing one of the supported razer devices for linuxgaming is actually a good choise. Thanks to openrazer and the polychromatic frontend i have my gear running well on my system. While not all features of my devices are supported like they would be on Windows it is good enough for my needs.

I hope that openrazer will be mainlined into the linuxkernel one day. It might also be a good idea to develope only one GUI frontend for it. While i am generally for individual solutions i don't like the useless fragmentation happening in many areas of opensource developement.
Most of that is because things people class as "gaming peripherals" are.. plain shit with 3 extra buttons and a few lights. Take razer for example, it doesn't just not work on linux, under windows there are also often problems because they always try to do stuff differently. And I'm not just talking I walk right you left differently. Bad solutions for bad problems, it's exactly why I very much doubt this would ever become part of the kernel, granted it is technically possible that openrazer is properly made.

Back when I still worked in a store that sold razer as "the gaming brand" it had absolutely mind boggling return rates. Granted it wasn't "trust/sweex/canyon etc" levels of bad.

Hundreds of years from now, it will be thanks to "pirates" that people will be able to play the games we have enjoyed in our lifetimes. NOT the large corporations who cannot even be trusted as custodians of their own source code. "Piracy" isn't even a necessary evil, it is an absolute good for humanity in the long run because of the oppressive copyright scheme we had foisted on us.
A bit late, but I felt I had to respond to this. As I said, I'm NOT against piracy. It's the paying for piracy that specifically bothers me.

Civilization VI - New Frontier Pass launches without Linux and macOS

After ALL the issues with cross play, and delayed updates, and horrible performance, and whatever.. I really don't get how anyone even WANTS to support this crapshow. Civ5 was my last civ, it's been tens of thousands of hours across all civs but this is one loyal fan they are never getting back.

Google opens a second studio to develop Stadia games - The Division 2 this month and more

Quoting: ShmerlWill they release their games for normal desktop Linux too, or they'll remain Stadia exclusive? In general, exclusivity is a bad thing.
From what they said, it sounds to me like they're trying to put together stuff that will take advantage of powerful servers to do games that would not run on a normal desktop, as some here have speculated would theoretically be possible. So they'd be exclusives not just in fact but by design. Well, until desktop power catches up . . .
They did say that, stuff like 40 car races in grid, or google assistant integration. Don't think I saw anything that has anything remotely to do with a technical limitation on a desktop
