Civilization VI has entered final testing for Linux, could release soon, should be on sale too
27 January 2017 at 5:42 am UTC

Quoting: oldrocker99Here's hoping :S: . The CIV:Beyond Earth Aspyr Linux port has a large number of Linux users on their Steam forum who are unhappy...as far as a sale goes, when CIV V came out, the day of release they made it available for 16.99 with all of the DLC. That was a monster sale indeed.
Yeah, I can play Civ 5 just fine, but Beyond Earth crashes a few minutes into the game. I reported the bug, and after sending my system information, Aspyr just said Arch Linux isn't supported so they can't help. :(

Humble Day of the Devs Bundle 2016 has some nice Linux games going for cheap

Solar Division, a blend of RTS and Tower Defence in space out now for Linux
1 May 2016 at 8:53 pm UTC

I've played a few levels, and so far I haven't seen any RTS elements. It does bring some elements I haven't seen in other tower defense such as patrolling drones and rolling back to checkpoints (which seems to be buggy for me), but I don't think those are very RTS-like either. The towers are not very innovative and there seem to be a lot of redundancy. I think the game has potential, but right now, it's not as interesting as the screenshots might suggest.

Infinite Bundle from Bundle Stars has 12 Linux games for next to nothing
3 January 2016 at 6:24 am UTC

It's a good deal, but activating the keys in steam one by one is so tedious. And if I just leave them until "I want to play the game one day", I'll probably never remember having bought them. I wish Steam and/or Bundle Stars made redeeming keys more convenient.

Lords of Xulima RPG Released For Linux, A Little On The Buggy Side
26 December 2015 at 4:30 pm UTC

I bought it recently and have been really enjoying it. The visible and wandering enemy system really makes exploration both exciting and not too stressful. And the art and music are very beautiful.

I bought the GOG version first and had to do some tweaks before it ran on my 64-bit Arch Linux. Then I noticed it was on discount at Steam and has Workshop support so I bought it there too. The Steam version worked out of the box and also reused my old saves.

Valve Looks Like It's Removed The SteamOS Icon For Games That Work On Linux, But Not Perfectly On SteamOS
17 October 2015 at 10:33 pm UTC

I don't think it makes much sense to have "Tux" icons for the Adobe Air games, because they work equally well for SteamOS or "plain" Linux. That is, they work but require manual tinkering (for example, instructions for ArchLinux.

If Steam wanted to support Adobe Air games for SteamOS, they could set up a wrapper for it and/or provide instructions for game developers to ensure out-of-box functionality. But they probably don't have enough reasons to care.

Defender's Quest Will Be Getting A Native Linux Port With Its Free HD Update
17 October 2015 at 10:15 pm UTC

The developers' blog post on HD upgrade was really nice to read. I liked the game a lot when playing it three years ago, and really look forward the the HD and sequel. By the way Arch Linux users could try my packages for the old game and its demo on AUR:

Freaking Meatbags Released For Linux, Some Thoughts On It

It reminds me of Revenge of the Titans (the "tower defense" part and visual style) and Faster Than Light (the crew management).

Defenders Quest Getting A Big Update, Removes The Need For Adobe Air
6 November 2014 at 6:55 pm UTC

Quoting: KelsNice! Now if we can get Anodyne to run without the accursed Air, I'll be happy.
I'm really happy about this news too, and hope more developers will follow suit. However in the mean time, it shouldn't be very hard to get most Adobe AIR apps to work with adl. The Arch Linux wiki has a guide on this:

https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Adobe_air

Of course game developers should treat Linux users as first-class citizens too, but we have many knowledgeable users, and I hope more of them could try to improve the installation of Adobe AIR applications on their distros.
