The Funding Crowd 23.1 (Nov 13th - Nov 17th)

By - | Views: 17,310
Welcome to The Funding Crowd, supplementary edition #23.1! We were running a little late on issue #23 (particularly with respect to ending deadlines of a couple Hidden Gems) but there were a few more projects that we really wanted to cover. Now we bring you this fine selection of currently-running relaunches and follow-on campaigns, all for game projects which should look familiar to longtime GOL readers.

Dropsy

For the coulrophobic among us who were secretly delighted that Jay Tholen's clown-based adventure game had previously failed, I have bad news! Jay is determined to bring Dropsy to our computer screens and has in fact already hit his slightly lower goal of $15k, with another week to make some stretch goals, including a commissioned soundtrack by composer Chris Schlarb of NightSky HD fame.  If you're considering pledging to this one, be sure to check out the utterly awesome "Reward Bot" video for a musical run down of the various tiers!

Lords of Xulima

Having already secured funds for its game via Indiegogo, Numantian Games has launched a Lords of Xulima follow-on Kickstarter campaign in order to help speed up the time to release. The modest $10k goal was already reached with over a week remaining, and a couple of special tiers have been made available to previous Indiegogo supporters for bonus items exclusive to the new campaign.

Elliot Quest

Inspired by Zelda II, Elliot Quest is a 2D platforming adventure game with fluidly animated retro pixel art. Having raised $1500 on a flexibly-funded Indiegogo campaign, Ansimuz Games have reached half of their Kickstarter goal to raise the final $5k they need to publish their game. It's already estimated to be around 70% complete and supporters will be likely to see the game in early 2014.

Bloom: Memories

The third time is a charm for Studio Fawn, who have relaunched their gorgeous and unique exploration and stealth action-RPG, and are progressing well, reaching $25k of the needed $40k. New readers may be interested to know that Bloom: Memories is a story-driven isometric ARPG, with an emphasis on offering both non-violent and combat oriented paths to players, each with it's own strengths and weaknesses.  We've covered it here twice in the past, and look forward to its release.  DRM-free downloads start at $10, and eschewing early-bird tiers, it appears they will remain that way!

See you next week ... In the meantime remember to watch our crowdfunding wiki to keep updated/to keep tabs about the lastest crowdfunded Linux games. Bye! ;)

Liam, thanks for fixing the images. Duh, should have realized they were html pages instead of the images themselves.

bcruz111, thanks for your positive feedback on our articles -- we'll use it for inspiration on #24 :)

Also remember you can PM us (speedster, s_d, scaine, muntdefems) when you have a favorite crowd-funding project that you'd like covered in the next issue.

Good job, Speedster & Liam!  Sorry to have forgotten the Relaunches section... last issue was an odd situation :)

Wait, you've put those images on imgur? Why? Are you that desperate to decrease bandwidth? o_O

We don't currently have an in-article image uploader, it's part of my long todo list.

Oh, okay. I can emphasize with having long TODO lists. :)

It's going to be one of the few Biggies in Funding Crowd #24, q4a, definitely. It looks great and I'll hopefully be writing it up shortly. Sadly, it's also off to a really, horribly slow start and none of the predictors are giving it much hope! :'(

A lot of the big projects are suffering actually. Raindrop failed, The Mandate is struggling, 7th Guest 3, Dino Run 2, Dragons of Elanthia. I dunno if it's just the run up the Christmas season or what, but some of these titles should be run away successes and it's just not happening for some reason.

I watched for the Obduction. It's big and fully funded, but their FAQ says: "Our Linux support currently depends on Unreal Engine 4 support. It's possible, but we can't promise it, yet."
So I hope, that it will support Linux.
