Parkitect - What Roller Coaster Tycoon Should Have Grown Into

By Guest - | Views: 16,208
Having grown up in the 90's one of the greatest games I played was Roller Coaster Tycoon. Like sandbox games Kerbal Space Program, or Sim City; RCT let you create insane roller coasters and uniquely set up parks. Sadly since Chris Sawyer left the quality has gone down, and the series is reduced to a freemium mobile app. Since I migrated to Linux, I hoped the series or something comparable would come to Linux. Parkitect might be the game that fills the void.

Parkitect maintains the basic formula that RCT has built. Create theme parks, design roller coasters, and keep guests happy! There are some unique twists however, such as having to create a park infrastructure. From maintenance access, supply chains, to guest transport, you're tasked with creating an easily accessible park for your staff. One of the most useless things in RCT was scenery, now scenery is essential for keeping the illusion of a fantasy world for your guests.

Parkitect is due to go into early access - August 2015.

Holy s**t. RCT was awesome! I hope they manage to get this at the same level as RCT2. If it looks good by the time it's on EA, I'll support it even though I've lost faith in EA quite a lot.

Also, someone needs to do this for Theme Hospital. Though CorsixTH is great, I still want more hospital.

*throws money at screen* Take it! TAKE IT!

This is awesome news I'll definitely support this! :D
I love RCT and RCT2. The third one was unfortunately pretty bad compared to the first two games

Does it feature a single-player campaign?

If not - no money from me.
I'm done with sandbox-only games. :/

Yes, I might be the only gamer left on
earth looking for catchy SP campaigns.

Yeah, for sure. Campaign is a must-have for me as well to buy the Early Access.

I loved the RCT games... So I would love to see this in the future.

Very likely, but it will come near the end of development. Sandbox mode for now.

Great, thanks!

I might buy it once it includes a campaign.

Early access is of no use to those waiting for
features (probably) added at the end of dev cycle.
I bought Prison Architect (not for a discount) to support
the project. It looks very good concerning the game
mechanics, but the promised campaign is not yet included.

I am a chronic Star Citizen fan-advertiser, but you should check out Star Citizen if you want a good single player game. It includes a single player campaign in 3 installments * 10 "episodes/missions" (all included in the base game), with 15+hrs of gameplay each installment. And yes, they have announced Linux, although haven't had much else Linux news, apart from the fact that they run their servers on Linux. I played Wing Commander III-V and loved them.
Well, at least about 20 years ago.

I'm pretty sure I will buy SC when it is released
and reliable reviews tell me "it's good".
