We knew that Larian was working on something big that stopped their work on the Linux version, and now we know what.

Reminder: They still have no release date for Linux, and their last communication on it was that the Linux version was stopped while this was going on. Still seems to be the same, so we have more waiting. That’s not me putting any kind of spin on it, as they stated it directly before.

It sounds like a beefy update though, and actually makes me a little bit more excited to see it finally arrive on Linux. It's not really an update, but a new game in itself and will be a free addition to anyone who owns the original on PC. Not that we've been able to even play that yet mind you.

QuoteAs well as local co-op, split screen and controller support, the Enhanced Edition also features:
All characters are now fully voiced by AAA-voice actors
New quests, new characters, and new content
Entirely new gameplay modes and character builds
A heavily rewritten story with a brand new ending
Massively reworked visuals and sound effects
And much more to be announced in the coming months!

The full gamepad support makes me very happy, especially as they have adjusted the UI for it too.

I just hope we aren’t left waiting another year for it to arrive on Linux.

While there is no linux release date, there is no release date for ANY version of the enhanced edition.

Thanks for sharing the link.

It has been sad to see all the hate and bashing here in GOL and linux_gaming reddit. Fortunately Linux players' tone in Larian forums has been much more positive.

Yeah, it's really great for companies like Larian if people are more positive.
Makes getting away with cheating way easier.

Also, probably you're confusing "hate" and "bashing" with being upset.

It's the typical attitude for many Linux gamers. Sometimes they make be ashamed to be apart of this community?

It's normal to be disappointed but acting like children doesn't do any good.

As long as they are going to deliver D: OS for Linux they are all fine and kept their promise. It is nasty to wait but unfortunately that's something Linux gamers has to get used to.

Promises are Linux compatible, but you actually cannot play with them.

While I try to stay positive with Larian the lack of communication on the Linux port alone was enough reason for many to get angry. I don't blame them. If people didn't cast a negative light on certain games for breaking things or screwing over their fanbase ( in general not just Linux ) nothing would change.

You can think people are acting entitled, or like children all you want, you perfect people. I for one know people will get upset and sometimes these companies really need to hear it. Larian's lack of communication about the state of this port was really deplorable.

BTW ty Liam for the updates.

afterthought: many people complained about the mods for money thing on valve, which this site even called childish complaining, and look at the result that came from it good or bad, the complainers got their way.

Edit:

Maybe I'm just too used how people behave in work life - people discuss about the problems and get them solved. Sure, Internet works differently, I just forget it time to time :)

I think the communication could have been better for sure. There are plenty of examples of bad communication. Just see what kind of drama is going around The Witcher 3 at the moment. Things could have been much easier for CDPR with good communication.

What could Larian do / could have done differently? If they never had a version that works on Linux how could they release it. They have been working Linux version for a sometime already and going to deliver it along with the other platform once Enhanced version is ready. I just don't see how bashing them solve any problems or make the release happen any earlier.

Unfortunately Linux is still quite far from being one of most important platforms. Oculus Rift, D: OS, Trine 3, etc. waiting, waiting and more waiting.

That doesn't really apply to this situation though. Larian accepted money from people because they promised a Linux version, which, as of now, they haven't delivered. There is nothing the people who gave money can do, they can't discuss the problem with Larian to solve it, because in the end, Larian decide on their priorities and do what they think is best. Complaining is pretty much the only thing people can do (other than just not saying anything and accepting things as they are), and Larian can then decide whether they want to reply or not.

Don't remind me, I start crying every time I see or hear anything Witcher 3 related.

They could have not promised something they couldn't deliver. Or, if they promised it and then noticed it'll take longer, they could have made keeping their promise a priority over working on other things. Also, they could have communicated better, made clearer right from the start that Linux support would be tough and has an unknown timeline.

Quoting: edqeThey have been working Linux version for a sometime already and going to deliver it along with the other platform once Enhanced version is ready. I just don't see how bashing them solve any problems or make the release happen any earlier.

I don't think anyone is suggesting that bashing anyone is a solution for anything. But I think it's perfectly justified to speak up and complain when someone is treating you poorly.

To be honest, I'm surprised that so many developers even bother making Linux versions at all, so for the most part, I don't mind waiting, I'm just glad to get the games at all. What I do mind though is when developers/publishers aren't forthright about the Linux version. Like Larian with D: OS, or like you pointed out, CDPR with Witcher 3 *cries again*.

instead of breaking down the comments...

The communication was #1 the worst when again, a company that was soo good at keeping people updated right until release (windows mac).

Other than that, IDK, obviously Linux isn't quite the money maker in the gaming scene so I don't expect people to go under making sure Linux is release the same day, but Icculus could of ported it himself in 1/4 of the time, or so it seems. This is just a really long wait for something that has no end in sight.

Personally I just don't care if people want to flame larian they probably should feel bad. I am not one to pull punches even in a work environment if something needs saying it gets said. Obviously I don't want many users to spit out emotional and incomprehensible dribble but they certainly should be able to say something, staying mum isn't going to get you anywhere.
