GamingOnLinux's GOTY Awards is now open!

By - | Views: 21,524
Greetings Linux gamers, our GOTY award is now open for voting. We have multiple categories to vote in this year, as requested.

Head over to our GOTY page to begin voting!

All games were nominated by the community, so if your personal choice isn't there be sure to add it next time during nominations.

It should be a bug free experience, but do let me know of any issues ASAP.

Voting will close on the 12th. Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

Bad luck that SR4 came out so late last year. It should be at least nominated for best audio, but its also my fault.

That "free" game category is just sad... don't even know what to vote for.

"This is for Native Linux games only."

Virtual Programming do not port games natively, yet they get nominated for 'Best Porter'? And nobody added GranPC? I have no idea how I missed the call for nominations, otherwise I would have done it myself.

Don't start that VP stuff again, this is not the place for it.

Can't help but notice that certain games are not in a particular category. Is this intentional?

I hope this doesn't ignite a huge VP discussion again (if so, sorry Liam), but I feel it's time to introduce some nuances to that whole debacle, in the light of the current voting. The reality is not as black and white as eOs is "just" a wrapper while Feral & co are doing all native ports. In fact the similarities are many. Feral have their "indirectX" technology that have striking similarities. Aspyr have their similar libraries helping them doing the ports faster by adding that extra translational layer.

That's an important factor as to why we get the notable performance losses on all these ports - and VP's layers are not even the worst of them. So please, put that "omg it's VR" to rest guys. The reality is a lot more nuanced, and we should be thankful that we get these great ports - and slam the hammer only when we don't.

I totally agree. Currently I am enjoying Saints Row IV much, much more than I expected to, and it's running great. As a Matrix fan the game is plain hilarious. I though I'd vote for Divinity: Original Sin as my GOTY, but I ended up handing my vote to VR and Saints Row IV.

Quoting: TheBossAnother one that sadly was missed, it has been moved. Whoever voted for that in open source games has their votes back in that category now.

I wouldn't do that, it would certainly arise questions why game X or Y is missing - and then it would be your miss, not ours.
How about a short list review phase? One day where everybody can point out wrongly placed stuff? Just like done now, except that voting is not open yet at that time, so nobody gets his vote returned?

It was only for a very few amount of games that had to be moved, can't leave the wrong games laying around taking up votes.

AH! Sorry! I quoted the wrong line of yours, which totally messes up the meaning of my posting. This is what I wanted to say...

Quoting: TheBossIn future, it's looking like we might nominate the games ourselves to prevent these issues.

Ah, yes that's what we didn't do this time around which is probably the issue, you're right. I asked editors to go over it but only myself and one other really had the time to do it. Next time I think we may still leave it open then, but ask the community to sift through it too.

Seems to be running smoothly now though!
