Neil deGrasse Tyson Presents: Space Odyssey was announced late last year and the initial website that was setup listed Linux support. The Kickstarter has now launched and it doesn't mention Linux now, neither did their press email to me.

The email to me and the Kickstarter now only state Windows & Mac, which is a massive shame. I was incredibly excited by the idea of it and I'm a fan of Neil myself. I've watched many of his talks and they always fill me with wonder.

I'm still not even clear what the game is trying to be, but they describe it as this:
QuoteWith Neil deGrasse Tyson as your trusted advisor and cosmic guide, you'll set out on science-based missions to create, explore, and expand.

Develop planets, colonize worlds, nurture species, mine elements, build robots, and discover unique life-forms as you coordinate with others in an intense game of real-time strategy.

I've reached out to the developer to find out what's going on. Always frustrating when this happens, but it happens a lot so I'm getting pretty used to developers saying Linux and then all mentions of it vanishing. Hopefully the developer will reply to me to give us a clear answer on why.

I do have other concerns about it now. For one, they seem to have no actual website. The video also shows nothing from the game itself, so it's likely it doesn't even exist yet. The video itself seems really low quality, with colours and brightness all messed up. The team they list is really small for such a massive idea, with only six people and one of them (Neil) is only an advisor. The list goes on, something just doesn't feel right. Shame, Wouldn't be surprised if it's due to inexperienced devs on our platform.

Is Neil deGrasse Tyson actually involved on this ?
Send him a tweet.

I have red alerts of a scam blaring in my head.
No concept art , no demo , nothing.
Could be just vaporware.

RED ALERT
SHIELDS UP

Even if he is a good popularizer, he seems to participate everywhere/time there are some money to catch. One point more to alert about this kind of kickstarter call.

I won't be buying it no matter what platform it's on.

I'm pretty sure the phrase "Neil deGrasse Tyson Presents:" means "Neil deGrasse Tyson got paid a fat licensing fee for his name".

Well, eff *"Neil deGrasse Tyson Presents: Space Odyssey."*

I'll stick with Clark's Space Odyssey,

with Bowie's Space Oddity,

Sagan's Cosmos

and my lovely beloved Linux, thank you very much.

:P

Starbound is already out and more or less it offers everything they promise, except for expensive VR and unnecessary celebrity VO.

This thing looks very shady.
Like their campaign video uses material from EVE Online "This is EVE" trailer.
