Few developers are able to pull off a Descent-like six-degree-of-freedom shooter, but the Overload [Steam, Official Site] team easily have the most promising available.

It updated again last month and I've put a bit more time into it now to get another feel for it. The game is constantly impressing me from all angles. It looks absolutely gorgeous with some great lighting effects and decent textures, the game feels like a properly up to date Descent. Not surprising though, since some of the Descent team are working on it. Honestly though, it puts the gameplay feel of Descent: Underground to absolute shame.

Here's a video of the new mission added in the last update, I'm a terrible pilot:

What I'm still most surprised about is performance, as you can see in that video it's absolutely solid. They've nailed the performance so early on it's impressive.

The latest patch didn't just add in that new level featured in my video, it also adds in the Holo-Guide (like the Descent Guide-Bot), this feature has helped me enjoy it a lot more, as I tend to get a bit confused with directions when I'm spinning around. You can direct it towards objectives and it's damn useful, looks pretty good too and it doesn't get in the way either.

They have also added in a basic save/load system preparing for when they have more of the campaign available. The system is early, so it won't properly save everything yet.

They have also added in another challenge-mode level: Foundry. This brings the challenge mode up to five levels now, each of them pretty decent to have a blast around.

There's lots more little changes added, so check out the release notes for the full scoop.

I am a massive fan of it already, well worth taking a look. It's also set to gain a free multiplayer expansion once the main game is finished, very much looking forward to it. Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

Quoting: BeamboomCould one of you Vive guys please report on how this game performs in VR?
Controls, fluidity, etc. Cause it sure looks like it could be fun in VR!
One day, I might be able to answer things like that, but not today :(
