There's now a Linux version of ASTROKILL on Steam as promised

I wrote about how the developer of ASTROKILL [Steam] was planning a Linux build just over a week ago, well, now they have!

As a reminder, here's the trailer:

Here's what they said:

I just uploaded the first Linux build. For anyone that already has the game, it should automatically download (if you're on a Linux machine). I have a batch of Beta keys to give out as well. PM me and I'll send you a key. Bear in mind, this is the first Linux build and it's entirely untested. I'm hoping it just works without a hitch, but that's rarely the case... If you already PM'd me, please do so again (Steam's chat system is pretty clunky).

I've placed it into my personal wishlist, as it seems like a game I would be very into. The developer cites influences from games like Freespace 2 (one of my all time favourites).

About the game:

Focused on combat without compromising realism, ASTROKILL is a modern space shooter drawing inspiration from old-school games like TIE Fighter and Freespace 2. Players pilot fighters, gunships, interceptors, and medics (in 1st or 3rd person) from warring factions in ballistic dogfights. Wage war flying for either the sprawling Dominion of Man or the rebellious Outer Belt Alliance!

It doesn't currently show a SteamOS icon, but don't let that deter you, there is a Linux build available right now.

Will you pick up a copy to support the developer?

It doesn't look like a game I would usually play but at $10.99 CAD it is cheap enough that I'll give them some money soon for supporting Linux.

You might want to update the video to allow playback on other sites.

It works kind of ok in the tutorial with occasional freezes on ubuntu 16.04 (it freezes but when you switch tasks you can see the slightly smaller window in the compositor runs normally, but when you switch back to the game it freezes again). Getting to esc menu and back to game unfreezes it. When playing the first campaign this happens say every few seconds. I've reported to the dev.

Quoting: GuestI'd be interested if anyone gets this working under Mesa. I'm thinking my problem is related to this:
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=101977

Maybe that is same thing about Everspace

I think it's done.

So, reading some of the reviews, running this at 3440x1440 is probably going to take a GTX1280 Ti.

Wishlisted this, but I'm not keen on buying Early Access games. This game says it'll be in early access for 'a few months', but was released in May 2016. Like, a few shouldn't really mean 15.

But it's really cheap and there seems to be a fair bit of content already.

Just wish they'd either pull the trigger on release, or update their EA statement to be more realistic.

The game is currently not working on opensource AMD drivers, but does work on intel, seems to perhaps be an issue with radeonsi. As it works on my 6950 with r600g.

What engine is used in this game?
