A bit of Croteam news to start the day with and there's multiple interesting items to go over in regards to their games.

I love how active Croteam are with their community, they're constantly replying to all sorts of random questions from players of their games. Thanks to this, we've been able to learn a few things about their plans.

Firstly, their fantastic puzzle game The Talos Principle is going to be moving over to their newer Fusion engine, they said it will be "Hopefully very soon". The VR version is actually already on it, so that's not surprising.

In response to another question posted in that same Steam thread, a user asked about DX11 and OpenGL being removed from their games, to which they said "2) Yes, OpenGL sooner, DX11 later.", so they're going all-in with Vulkan and DX12. You might remember they were originally going Vulkan-only (or at least, that's how it seemed), but DX12 gave them Xbox One compatibility.

Finally, as a little teaser and again in response to another user question about Serious Sam 4 they said "Why do you think we are doing all this - adding those things to the engine, improving stuff, etc - in the first place?".

Personally, I'm quite excited by Serious Sam 4! Having another quality FPS on Linux that uses Vulkan is going to be great, although it's likely still quite some time away from any kind of release.

I didn't play through all of the last Serious Sam, but I guess it will still be a must-buy.

I wish they'd switch the models & textures in the older games to match Serious Sam 3 so they all look as good, I know it would be a mountain of work to do so it's probably not going to happen, but I can wish for it anyway.

Unless it's on their to-do list & I missed it. :D

Ahhh Croteam... Happy Days ahead. Serious Sam 4 will do a great job of filling the Linux "DOOM" void.

I can't say I care about Sam, but I'm looking forward to The Talos Principle 2. I think Croteam already confirmed they'll be working on a sequel or at least another first person puzzle game.

I’d pick a sequel to The Talos Principle too. Though I need to get back to the first game and finish it finally – I stopped somewhere at the beginning of cathedral levels and never got around to finishing them.

Eh, so many games started and never really completed. Life was easier in the Loki Software era.

I think the only thing I don't like about them is that their engine is rather motion sickness prone. I got around it with some settings, but the Let's Players of my choice couldn't stand it in Talos Principle...

I love the Vulkan support, but I'm not too sure about dropping OpenGL and DX11 support for a 3 year old game. What about all the people on older hardware who have already bought a copy?

This is another one of those times when Steam's nature as a DRM platform rears its ugly head.

I have some problems with Vulkan in Fusion, so I switched to OpenGL.
1. Everything crashes unless I launch the game with Steam overlay disabled.
2. After about 30 minutes of playing, the game starts to stutter, and I have to switch its graphic rendeder from Vulkan to OpenGL and back to Vulkan again.

I hope Croteam will fix Vulkan first before dropping OpenGL.

They can stick older versions into opt-in betas, it's what a lot of Steam developers do.
