Fort Triumph is an impressive and pretty fun strategy game, taking in elements from games like XCOM with more environment interactions. They just put out a rather interesting update.
It now features a Skirmish Mode, one where you choose your faction and face off against the AI across the map. To help make it interesting, the map is now randomly generated too.
This release also includes a Human faction with their own abilities, World Map AI has been improved, many new ability upgrades have been added and plenty of bug fixes.
While that's all well and good, they've now removed the story missions. Don't fret though, they will return when they lock the story down and have it properly ready. Essentially, this mode is to keep you going until the story is ready for release by the sounds of it. To access the older story missions, you can switch to the "Legacy" beta branch on Steam.
Fort Triumph is a challenging medieval fantasy turn-based tactics game where you lead a party of heroes facing permanent death at any moment. Outsmart deadly foes with tactical ingenuity and by using the environment - both as cover and as a weapon - and guide your party through perilous adventures.
In Fort Triumph, every crate and every tree is a potential weapon in the hands of experienced tacticians: in order to succeed, you will have to burn, freeze, topple, kick around or outright destroy the scenery at the right moment.
I actually really enjoy the game. As long as they work on performance, it should be a strategy game to watch. The interactions with the environment really are fun, kicking people into things damaging them and making them dizzy, making things fall on top of people and so on. There's a huge amount of charm to it, I'm looking forward to the finished story once it's back in.
After trying out the new Skirmish mode though, it's also really quite fun. Building up a team, traveling the map and taking down enemies in turn-based tactical battles—great!
Find it on Steam right now.
