The Steam Winter Sale is now live with a special Holiday Market

By - | Views: 38,928

Another year is almost up, it's getting chilly and Valve's annual Steam Winter Sale has now gone live so go warm yourself up with a toasty new game.

There's thousands on sale as always. You likely know what you're after already, I'm sure most readers have wishlists full of games ready to be picked up.

If you don't know what to get, I will suggest 10 awesome indie games on sale that no one should pass up on. Every single one of these would be a fantastic choice to add to your collection:

  1. Don't Starve Together - (includes 1 extra copy) 60% off
  2. Hand of Fate 2 - 60% off
  3. Slime Rancher - 60% off
  4. Slay the Spire - 50% off
  5. Oxygen Not Included - 33% off
  6. Dead Cells - 30% off
  7. Streets of Rogue - 30% off
  8. CrossCode - 25% off
  9. Parkitect - 25% off
  10. Baba is You - 20% off

The recently released Linux port of Life is Strange 2 is also on sale, you can get the first episode with 75% off if you want to get a taster of it. Plenty more fantastic Linux ports from Feral Interactive are worth picking up too, check them all out here.

Paradox Development Studio have supported Linux for a long time, with their games also on sale and worth picking up if you enjoy a good strategy game:

For those of you who want to try out some more games with Steam Play Proton, I can easily recommend Deep Rock Galactic which is 33% off right now and Risk of Rain 2 at 20% off. You can see all Linux games currently on sale using this link.

As a little extra, during the Steam Winter Sale you can earn Festivity Tokens when you shop and then use them in the Holiday Market. There's also some special quests to complete, to get extra tokens to spend in the market.

If you pick up anything you're really excited to try, do let us know in the comments. Our Forum is also open if you need a lengthier chat about a specific game or you need help.

Do yourself a favour and buy Return of the Obra Dinn: hands down one of the best games I ever played in my entire life. It is an investigative adventure, and (to me) it's like being into the "The Narrative of Arthur Gordon Pym of Nantucket" book from E. A. Poe. Absolutely great!

It runs perfectly under Steamplay/Proton.

EDIT: fixed some typos

Does anyone complete holiday quests? I cannot do today's one (to watch a friend's broadcast). I get this: "Your web browser does not support the minimum set of features required to watch this broadcast." Is this a Steam for Linux problem?

Not sure. I watched my girlfriend streaming, but she couldn't watch me as Steam doesn't support broadcasting from a Linux PC. :/

We then switched places, so she signed into steam on my PC, and me on hers, and she got the web browser error you got.

I started the exact same game I watched her streaming, tried lowering my broadcasting resolution, etc. and we couldn't figure it out.

Could just be Steam being Steam, but I wish they wouldn't push people to use such half-baked features (especially when they're not even cross-platform compatible).

I could watch streaming with Chromium. It was harder than it should be though:
1. Close your Steam client;
2. Log in to your Steam account in a web browser;
3. Open a chat window there with your friend who is broadcasting (if you have missed step 1, it will be opened in a Steam client);
4. Join a broadcast here.

I still couldn't see any video, but it was not necessary to get that quest completed.

These quests are too social. Why doesn't Gaben think about introverts like myself? I should probably create a second Steam account…

Another day, another broken quest… It cannot be completed with any multiplayer game, only with Remote Play. Find a local coop game.

I mean, "find a Remote Play game if you want to finish today's quest", not "suggest a game to me". My friend used DAMNOSAUR, a small (230 MB) free game.
