Assassin’s Creed Valhalla has been formally announced by Ubisoft, and it's confirmed to be coming to Stadia so you will be able to stream it on Linux at release. For those of you hoping to grab it on Steam to play with Steam Play Proton, you're in for some disappointment there as it's going to the Epic Games Store instead. At least with Stadia, there's still a way to play right away.

More: Assassin’s Creed Valhalla throws players axe-first into ninth-century England, an age of warring kingdoms and Viking conquest. As Eivor, a fierce Viking raider, you’ll lead your clan to build a new home amid England’s fractured dominions.

I'm a huge fan of the setting! I somewhat recently blitzed through the Vikings TV series and so this news has me personally quite pumped-up and excited. After playing quite a lot of Assassins Creed Odyssey on Stadia, which works impressively well, hopefully this will too. It's launching "Holiday 2020"

As a reminder, the Stadia game streaming service is now open to anyone in the supported countries (14 total currently). You also get two months free Stadia Pro which comes with multiple games - more on that here.

I got some of the Creed games from the Humble sub. Have yet to play any of them. So far I couldn't be bothered to set up UPlay in WINE in a way that I could redeem the Humble keys. I guess I am not THAT interested in Ubi's games, so no biggie for me if they jump ship to EGS. Not interested in Stadia either. Not sure why I'd want to waste multiple Gigabytes of bandwidth per hour just to stream a game my computer could render locally just as well, if not better.

Quoting: KohlyKohlThe trailer in the article is region locked and doesn't work in the US.
Oh sorry, seems I grabbed it from the UK YouTube, have switched it for their generic named channel which I assume doesn't have such issues.

Looks like there isn't a version for everyone. Here is the North American version: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L0Fr3cS3MtY

Quoting: rustybroomhandleI'd probably buy/play through UPlay/Wine directly, rather than the EGS store or Stadia.

Same here; besides, the uplay store has regional pricing, & whenever there's a major sale on steam & elsewhere, they have an equivalent sale as well.

It's a pity that the windows version almost certainly won't be vulkan based; but I'd *love* to be wrong about that.

I lost interest in the series after the few I played on the PS3, but this does seem like the worst possible way of doing things: go through the effort of porting the game to Linux & Vulkan, but then go specifically with Linux-hostile methods so they couldn't sell it to Linux customers even if they could be bothered to.

You can be sure, they do not even think a second about Linux. Stadia promises Money, Linux does not. So simple (and sad)

Quoting: GuestI was really hyped about it. But again Epic only? Well thanks for saving me money i guess....
except it wont be epic only as it require a u play account even from the epic store just like it would from steam so either way you have to go through uplay.

Quoting: t3gI don’t play these games, but if you play an Ubi game on Steam it launches Uplay after. Is the Uplay integration workable in Proton?

Sort of depends on the game it seems however there is always lutris which handles u play without issue thus far

Is it just me or is "Assassin's Creed" kind of an odd name for a game about Vikings?

It's the established brand name they slap on top of historical period dramas that probably would fare better without any of the convoluted & incoherent (beyond redemption) 'lore' and backstory that comes trailing behind that name.

I really can't fathom why they think the game wouldn't sell as well without the AC name attached to it; what a bizarre place to look for 'safety'.

It's not like there aren't tons of interesting historical settings where assassins would fit just fine and you could call it "Assassin's Creed" and more or less mean it. You got your original Middle East Hashishin. The glory that was Rome (or shadows behind same); the political mazes of Byzantium. Imperial China. Plausibly the ancient Persian empire. Anywhere urban and sophisticated. Plenty of places you could do franchise entries with actual assassins.
Viking England, not so much.
