Liftoff: FPV Drone Racing gets a huge physics update, new racing environment

Liftoff: FPV Drone Racing is a very good simulator and it just got that little bit better, with update 1.4.0 out now bringing some major improvements.

Going back to the drawing board for the physics system, LuGus Studios decided to rely less on Unity's built-in physics with their new flight controller, the result is that overall in many places it should perform better. Something that also sounds fancy is a new " A.I. PID tune feature" that will adjust "itself based on the system's performance for a perfectly tuned setup in light" but you can still tune things manually.

They also upgraded the Unity version used, added a new environment with three tracks and quite a bit more.

Can't wait for drones to get long distance low latency 1080p60+ FPV and flight time of 60+ minutes. On the risk of blindness I'll spend most of my days soaring through the sky scaring freaking birds and whatnot. I'll mod the hell out of it too, so I could drop shit on people.

You guys should give https://www.velocidrone.com a bit of love :). It's the best racing Sim out there and has Linux support. It's so good that pilots use it to train for real events.
I have nothing against Liftoff, but the competitive scene is mainly at Velocidrone.

Well, Liftoff has way better UI, is more user friendly, has nicer graphics and insanely fast drones (like 2x faster) and setting up the RC controller is a breeze. Velocidrone has more realistic flight speeds, slightly better physics (I think it comes to drag simulation but maybe there's more) and way better drone sounds simulation (the feedback on throttle control is awesome) but I couldn't set up the controller properly. Liftoff has less official maps (15 compared to 25, I think) but more polished. When I last checked only Liftoff was on Steam which made it very convenient to install and easier to browse community made content. So yeah, Velocidrone might be better for pros and semi-pros who want to focus on realistic simulation but when it comes to gaming and flight for pleasure I personally prefer Liftoff.

All good, both have their advantages and disadvantages. Veloci just hasn't shown up on GOL yet. I just want to point out another great linux native FPV racing simulation. So it possibly gets some more attention here with upcoming updates. :)
