Pop!_OS Linux from System76 is expanding with more vendors, as HP now have a teaser up for the HP Dev One laptop. Built for developers they say, although with the kind of specs on offer it seems like it might make quite a good gaming machine too.

Some of the specs include:

  • 8-Core AMD Ryzen™ 7 PRO processor
  • 16GB memory DDR4 @ 3200MHz
  • 1TB fast PCIe NVMe M.2 storage²
  • 14" diagonal FHD anti-glare display
  • AMD Radeon™ Graphics

The unit itself looks absolutely gorgeous too, it even has a "Super" key instead of the standard Windows logo you get on most laptops as a great little added touch. Of course, it also comes with Pop!_OS as standard too, a project that has been "Months in the making" said System76 CEO Carl Richell.

I wonder if the case is made of metal or plastic. Looks nice and very cool to see more companies preinstalling a linux distro.

Very unexpected to see them choosing PopOS. It looks like the Cosmic desktop is attracting some people already.

They should have used a rocket as the super key, not a text that says "super".

To be fair, brands like HP and DELL have offered (business) laptops with Linux preinstalled for about a decade.

You could tell them, instead of being condescending.

Awesome news! We're starting to see more and more Linux desktop machines shipping out of the box and now we have a large company like HP on board too.

I've always thought all the small linux laptop vendors should club together to bulk buy components to bring the unit price down and generally collaborate more, their competition is cheaper and/or more popular windows and mac laptops, not each other.

What I'm looking forward to is getting this to the hands of laptop reviewers like Dave2D and Short Circuit - the latter would be the redemption that Pop/S76 need after blewing it up in the LTT Linux Challenge.

I really liked what I've tested of Pop 22.04 so far. Granted, my experience isn't stock, but I've only added extensions for minor tweaks. The core experience themselves is still very close to what system76 made out of the box, which surprised me given how usually I found it unbearable to not use at least dash-to-dock, dash-to-panel, and ArcMenu.

Thaaaaaanks for that. I think you missed the point. The point of my comment was to say that not everyone knows to translate the "super key" they see in a Linux operating system to the one with a Windows logo.
