Steam adds support for Nintendo Joy-Con controllers in Beta

By - | Views: 21,505

Steam is ever-improving and constantly expanding what is supported by Steam Input. Just recently they added a new Steam Client Beta with support for the Nintendo Joy-Con controllers.

This follows on from the recent stable Steam Client release which added support for the Nintendo Online classic controllers including the NES, SNES, Nintendo 64 and Sega Mega Drive / Genesis controllers.

With the new Beta released on August 4th Valve has now added the official Nintendo Joy-Con controller support, that can be used individually as a mini-gamepad or them both combined. Additionally, support for the Nintendo Online classic controllers has also now been improved.

So a tiny update in terms of what's new but still a very welcome one.

It's actually pretty incredible just how wide the controller support is on Steam now. It's likely you can just pick up close to any controller and it will work.

Oh, that's cool. I have knock off switch pro controller in my house too. I might have to try to see if I can get them to work along with the joycons

Here's hoping for a 3rd party steam deck with detachable joy-cons and TV dock.

And hopefully said Joy-Cons won't break just from looking at them funny.

It's a bit buggy for now. It worked with 1 joycon out of two, but the "nintendo button order" toggle didn't work, and it got confused when I tried to remap buttons, thinking it was an Xbox one controller suddently, inverting the y-axis.

On top of that, I still have issues with xinput emulation and at least the steam controller.

Apparently, the new nintendo kernel module might conflict with steam? https://github.com/ValveSoftware/steam-for-linux/issues/6651
