In the mood to play a co-op shooter? Humble Bundle has a huge PAYDAY 2: The Ultimate Score bundle ready for you. If you don't own it already that is, as it's not exactly a new game.

PAYDAY 2 has a Native Linux port, although it seems to work quite well with Proton too and reports are mixed on what is better in this case so your mileage may vary there. It is also Steam Deck Verified!

The bundle includes:

  • PAYDAY 2
  • PAYDAY 2: Dragon Pack
  • PAYDAY 2: Jiu Feng Smuggler Pack
  • PAYDAY 2: Jiu Feng Smuggler Pack 2
  • PAYDAY 2: The Ukrainian Prisoner Heist
  • PAYDAY 2: Guardians Tailor Pack
  • PAYDAY 2: Jiu Feng Smuggler Pack 3
  • PAYDAY 2: Black Cat Heist
  • PAYDAY 2: Mega City Tailor Pack
  • PAYDAY 2: Winter Ghosts Tailor Pack
  • PAYDAY 2: Jiu Feng Smuggler Pack 4
  • PAYDAY 2: Mountain Master Heist
  • PAYDAY 2: Golden Dagger Tailor Pack
  • PAYDAY 2: Border Crossing Heist
  • PAYDAY 2: Cartel Optics Mod Pack
  • PAYDAY 2: Tailor Pack 1
  • PAYDAY 2: San Martin Bank Heist
  • PAYDAY 2: Federales Weapon Pack
  • PAYDAY 2: Tailor Pack 2
  • PAYDAY 2: Weapon Color Pack 1
  • PAYDAY 2: Breakfast in Tijuana Heist
  • PAYDAY 2: Weapon Color Pack 2
  • PAYDAY 2: Fugitive Weapon Pack
  • PAYDAY 2: Buluc's Mansion Heist
  • PAYDAY 2: Gunslinger Weapon Pack

And the list goes on for quite a while, plus there's some coupons for savings on other DLC.

Check out the bundle here.

The native port is fine, but it uses OpenGL, which works for you if your GPU doesn't have Vulkan support I suppose. I use Proton because DXVK seems to get a lot better performance. I also heard getting mods for this game is a lot easier thru Proton than the native port. Both are playable though and it's just down to preference.

I just searched to see if there were any videos on youtube with native v. proton, and here's a good comparison from 2020 - https://youtu.be/jDf00eS4XJ0

I prefer the native port always. It incentives the developers care for linux and it's users. If we use the windows version its possible that they break "compatibility" with some update.

Oh, there is a comparison video, huh. That's very interesting. I can actually relate to the results shown there as being pretty accurate. OpenGL does bottleneck the game, though that's hardly the games' fault. It runs basically the same when compared to Proton or even Native Windows, so it's up to personal preference really.

Getting mods to work isn't really all that different. People have had issues in the past, in part due to libcurl4 incompatibilities ruining any chance of getting it to work, but it's fine now. Native modding doesn't work on Steam Deck due to Flatpaks' sandboxing, and my attempts to override it have not been fruitful.

Right now, the Native Port does have a bit of a problem with Mesa drivers being built against LLVM14/15 (which is to say, modern Fedora and Arch), but general Ubuntu and Mint installs won't be affected unless they use bleeding edge PPA's. Cpnversly, newer Proton builds cause a memory leak when running the game and (re)starting levels which sounds rather nasty.

Just some food for thought from a dual booter of the game since 2016.

So I tried to get this as a gift for a friend that is into the series but does not have all of the DLC and HB required that I add a phone number and informed that my account had to be reviewed before allowing the purchase. After 2 days I decided to cancel the order and delete the 1x account I made to get this.

First time ever I've been required to provide a phone number for a software purchase ever.
