Steam Deck and desktop Beta fix up more on-screen keyboard bugs

By - | Views: 20,252

Bugs! Kill 'em all! Would you like to know more? Valve have a new Steam Deck and Desktop Steam Beta available with a few bugs being stomped. As per usual, there's some shared between them since they mostly use the same bits of the Steam client now.

For the Steam Deck here's what's changed:

General

  • Fixed right-shift and nearby keys of onscreen keyboard sometimes not working.

  • Fixed "a" and "c" keys triggering an animation on the game details page.
  • Fixed controller guide button shortcut summary showing an incorrect icon.

Steam Input

  • Fixed an issue where the deadzone slider would get clipped in the controller configurator.

And then a few differences for Desktop Steam so here's what's changed there:

New Big Picture Mode

  • Fixed right-shift and nearby keys of onscreen keyboard sometimes not working.

  • Fixed "a" and "c" keys triggering an animation on the game details page.
  • Big Picture Mode only supports modifying network settings when running on SteamOS / Steam Deck.
  • Hid button to view Steam Deck manual in Quick Access on non-Deck devices.

Steam Input

  • Fixed an issue where the deadzone slider would get clipped in the controller configurator.

One day this year, I really hope I get to excitedly write about how either Valve or NVIDIA fix the terrible performance of the New Big Picture Mode on Desktop. Apparently one does not simply walk into Mordor make it work well. I'm sure if it was easy, it would have been sorted by now.

Ok.
In full awareness that this may not go down at all well, a request/suggestion:

Is there any possibility of having separate section of the site for Steam Deck? Or even - deep breath time - a SteamDeck specific site

Yes, the Deck is easily the most important thing that's happened in Linux gaming... but far too much of that news is of little to no interest to desktop users, and it's starting to dominate the news feed.

The YouTube page is now almost exclusively Deck news, and would really prefer to avoid that happening here too.

[Also recently requested the option to turn off/filter Deck reviews on ProtonDB, since having to scroll down multiple pages of them to get to desktop info is now extremely irritating]

Waiting for the comments about "but they didn't fix this or that, did they?"

You can filter articles with specifics tags to be hidden, if it is what you are asking for.

There's a tag system, use it. If you don't want to see Steam Deck news at all you can:
- Add it as a blocked tag in your settings.
- Simply not click on the article link.
- Use the category picker, with a few categories selected as your GOL homepage. Here's an example using it for only showing Free + Native.

GOL was never specifically about desktop Linux gaming. It was about everything. It follows my personal interests, always has and always will.

The YouTube was almost never used, it's not a complaint that makes much sense.

Every tag also has an RSS feed, feel free to use it only for those you wish to follow.

Awesome. Obviously was not aware of this and will use it.

Comment edited, to include another possible way you can use the tag system instead of the GOL homepage directly.

Did the tag thing, and that's completely perfect. Thank you.

Glad it was helpful! It's exactly why I made the site the way it is, so people can pick and choose what they want to see.

Classic. Oh, and "I'm doing my part!" too.
