AMD Radeon RX 7600 announced for $269 with 8GB VRAM

By - | Views: 23,933

Even with all the talk about 8GB VRAM simply not being enough now for all the new games coming out, we're still seeing multiple launches with it. Now with the AMD Radeon RX 7600 priced at $269.

Announced today by AMD and availability actually tomorrow, May 25th with partners including ASRock, ASUS, Biostar, Gigabyte, MSI, Sapphire, PowerColor, Vastarmor, XFX and Yeston.

From the press release:

“Currently, 65% of gamers surveyed are playing at 1080p and the majority are still using older graphics cards, unable to take advantage of the latest performance and visual-enhancing features that deliver the best gaming experiences,” said Scott Herkelman, senior vice president and general manager, Graphics Business Unit at AMD. “AMD offers a range of graphics solutions at different price points, memory configurations and performance levels to support a variety of gamers’ needs. The Radeon RX 7600 graphics card at US $269 hits the sweet spot for high-performance 1080p gaming. It allows users to enjoy the latest features like AV1 encoding, the AMD Radiance Display Engine and more to take their gaming, streaming and content creation projects to the next level.”

VRAM size aside, the price to performance ratio seems pretty reasonable here. No review from me though, as AMD don't send over hardware ever and don't reply to emails even just to be on their press list either despite repeated attempts. I email them every product launch to complete silence.

Most importantly - what do you make of the specs and price? Will this be your next GPU?

Come one Intel... fix your Arc A770/750 drivers for Linux please. AMD and Nvidia seem to have decided to stop competing :(

ok so this is the final verdict (been studying this since the release of this GOL article.

This sums it perfectly, gives the idea of what this GPU actually is in comparison to others and is what I was hoping to read in the comments. Guess everyone has to make their own homework and not wait for others to post relevant info

Quoting: TechpowerupAMD's MSRP for the Radeon RX 7600 is $270, which is considerably lower than the $400 that NVIDIA wants for the RTX 4060 Ti, but there's also a 25% performance difference. At that price point, the card offers virtually the same price/performance as the RX 6600 XT ($250). While AMD does have some technological improvements like HDMI 2.1, DisplayPort 2.1 and AV1 video encode/decode, I think none of these are relevant in this segment, at least not to the majority of potential customers; NVIDIA has the DLSS 3 carrot to dangle in front of gamers. The RX 7600 should really be $199 or $229 to make it an interesting option. Strong competition comes from the Radeon RX 6700 non-XT ($280), which brings with it a larger 10 GB framebuffer, and the Radeon RX 6700 XT is only $320, which is a pretty significant $50 increase, but you're getting 12 GB VRAM and 15% higher overall performance. As mentioned before, RTX 4060 Ti is one tier away, and much too expensive, but RTX 4060 non-Ti will release in July for $300, which will keep things interesting in this segment.

Phoronix benchmarked rx 7600 on Linux already

I know its kinda off topic but since the Intel Cards got mentioned: Against what could you compare an ARC 750/770?

Quoting: mrdeathjrWell if rtx 4060ti is a fail in various levels, this card join to same group

Personally seems better rx 6700 10gb or 6700/50 xt 12gb and back to rx 7600 as rtx 4060 ti/non ti are stupid cards with stupid price

The 4060ti is a major fail because it performs basically equally to or even in some instances worse then the 3060ti so it remains to see how the 7600 stacks up against the 6600 (non xt).

It seems, as per Phoronix benchmarks and the Ars Technica review that I just read, that it's a "normal" generational leap. Nothing extraordinary. It safely compares to the RX6600XT. Ars seems to think that it regularly beats the 12Gb RTX3060 and RX6650XT... Probably on Windows...

Edit: PCGamer has the same conclusions, as per benchmarks, but RT is a major weakness with AMD. If turned off, it sails past the RTX 3060. Personally, I couldn't care less. It's the first thing I do when I start a new game.

While slightly faster than the Rx 6600, there isn't enough difference to even think about switching. Though it appears to be cheaper than my Rx 6600 was a year ago (unless those $270 are excluding VAT, in which case there's no difference either, meaning it's still too much for what it offers).

What a #$%^show of a card and release. 300 Euros for pretty much 6600 XT performance (on Linux). And the latter can be had for as low as 280 Euros right now. At least on Windows the card is somewhat faster (in some games) than the 6600 XT, so maybe we can hope for decent improvements in the next few Kernel/Mesa releases.

Also one can hope for a quick dive in price, similar to the 7900 XT, but I'm not holding my breath after they already had a last minute MSRP change. This thing really belongs in the 200-230 Euro range (where the 6600 is right now).

Gamers Nexus talks about the messy situation prior to the release with driver issues and last minute changes all over the place: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MCxYfXe1DAA

Those USD MSRP are always excluding VAT.

Edit: and I even forgot the existence of the 6650 XT, which is priced starting at around 260 Euros...

Most people don't upgrade their monitors very often.

And the GPU amount of power necessary to push 4k @ -- 60 hz / 60 FPS -- is surprisingly a lot. Especially when you factor in dips.

A FPS player is going to benefit from higher FPS as well if the refresh rate of their monitor is higher -- say 120hz - 170hz. The difference is HUGE vs 60hz or 30hz.

I don't remember the details but you needed specific HDMI or DP version to have the bandwidth to push anything above 4k @ 60hz -- it starts to get complicated. ( Fuck proprietary royaltee HDMI, DP is the clear FOSS winner )

-- the thing that makes this interesting to me is the compact size and that it uses less power in general, so that means less heat, a great daily use card.

Can't comment on the size, but the issue with power is that both the 6600 XT and 6650 XT have very similar power consumption.
