It's been a bit of a saga for Apex Legends players using the Proton compatibility tool to play it on Steam Deck and Linux desktop but it seems Respawn continue their ban investigation.

Reports have been sprinkling in over the last few days that numerous players who were unfairly banned have seen their bans get reversed. Hopefully this is a sign of Respawn now properly looking into it, after many players have been waiting over a week for a resolution on the issue despite firm claims of no cheating happening.

It's still not clear what's going on, or what caused this second ban-wave of players on Linux systems and we're not likely to be told why — because when it comes to anti-cheat bigger developers and publishers don't like to go into details that might in any way help cheaters.

Respawn still have the investigation noted on their official Trello page so they haven't finished yet.

Are you still banned? Or have you been unbanned recently or were you not banned at all and were able to carry on? Let me know in the comments.

Will we see an apology from EA for their terrible work responding to the support tickets? Probably not.

They really showed how bad their support is, just a bot replying that they "Looked into it".

if $PLAYER_IS_BANNED
then
echo "After thoroughly investigating your account and concern, we again found that we actioned your account correctly after..."

Really show that they don't care about their players/customers. They are still one of the few launcher I see needing a fix every few proton updates.

If their track record is so unreliable, guess what? I'm not even going to try the game if I have to read the news or a certain forum topic every single time before launching the game.

They really need a solid comeback after all this mess.

definitely welcome the unbanning of players, hoping they and other companies start considering the linux user base some more on anti-cheat related matters. it appears to be a step in the right direction

After some more investigation we have determined you should not be banned, even after telling you 3 times we had a reason to do so. Now go 🦆 yourself and give us more money
