Today Sniper Elite 5 got updated and it seems they upgraded Easy Anti-Cheat from Epic Online Services, including making sure it works on Linux and Steam Deck.
So thanks to that Valve have also as of today given it a Steam Deck Playable rating. As seen on SteamDB, it originally mentioned the unsupported anti-cheat but that's no longer the case. It would be Verified if it didn't have some cases where the in-game text was too small, so hopefully that's something Rebellion can work on next. It also notes the first-time setup needs an active internet connection.
Currently the Steam Deck verification has it pinned to the stable version of Proton (Proton 8.0-3).
Sniper Elite 5 originally launched in May 2022, so it's nice to see continued support for the game and for the developer to ensure it works properly for Steam Deck and Linux desktop players like this. The list of games unplayable on Steam Deck is getting shorter all the time.

I uninstalled that a few months ago because of frequent, large updates to accommodate rip-off DLC content that I'm never going to buy (was not impressed with what I got from the first season pass and I'm not buying another). That was unexpected from that game company, and one of my favourite franchises. I bought everything for all those games and didn't feel burned like that.
When that happens, I regret it because I won't be inclined to free up space and download 100+ Gb any time soon. I do miss some parts of that game though but having to download 50+ Gb updates for no reason just to be able to hop in to play a mission was too onerous, was preventing me from playing it, and I could use the space on my NVME drive for something else.
Nice to see them putting in some effort for Linux though. I don't play multiplayer anything, and unchecked the box, so I wasn't affected by EAC problems, but this game worked for me right out of the box on launch day, with the Vulkan renderer. There were some quest bugs, reward unlock bugs etc. that got fixed (though some of that stuff took a long time). They broke it once with an update (failing on entry points in directx dlls, while probing early on launch regardless of renderer, if not certain Windows 10 patch level... affected Windows users too), and promptly fixed it in less than one day. They are good that way, at least.

Yeah, a lot of developers don’t respect your drive size limitations. It’s like most of them are thinking: “Why would our customers install ANY other software besides our game, right? RIGHT?”.
Same goes to 4K-UltraHD textures that get pushed to your 800p handheld device (Steam Deck anyone?) for no reason.

These should all be dlc (free of charge of course). But for the higher-ups DLC doesn’t translate to downloadable content, but to “vehicle for monetization”. 🙄

Pity it still uses Denuvo........ At least I know it will run on Linux now...... So when they remove that Denuvo crap I will buy it when its on a super discount deal......... But I wont buy it until they remove it......

Living out in the rural areas means theres not a lot of internet service providers here and the ones that are here all have data caps.........

Where do you live StoneColdSpider? If that's OK to ask.
I think we're pretty "lucky" in France about this aspect, we don't have data caps, except for mobile ones.

Semi Rural Australia........ Not quite in the outback but far enough out of the city to be considered a Backwards Redneck.....
But even if you live in the city and you want unlimited data its 80 dollarydoos per month for 25Mbps speed...... 120-140 Dollarydoos per month if you want the "fastest" 250Mbps And thats IF youve got the Fibre NBN Internet...... If Your out in the bush you are more likely to have the "Wireless NBN"...... And they have a different price structure....... Some IPS are a bit cheaper but they are all around the same price.......
Oh and NBN stands for National Broardband Network...... And since its a government initiative...... You can guess how screwed up its been.....
Im on an old plan with a data cap and have been since I moved from the city 8 years ago....... But if I changed to a newer unlimited plan it would actually cost me a lot more per month..... So I just stick with my cap and just be careful when downloading stuff during the month and then rush on the last few days to get everything I want before the data cap rolls over...... I already think the internet costs to much here in Australia already and thats while im on an older cheaper plan.........

They have never enforced it on me, but in my general "TOS" (that I did indeed read after I signed up) it's something like 300 Gb/month (what's that, 3 games now? lol). Now, I haven't looked or cared to look for any updated TOS, but I've never been billed for bandwidth or had the ISP complain about my usage or behaviour in the decade or so that I've had them.
However... I have always considered bandwidth to be a resource that is mine to use, but is not mine to waste. I feel STUPID, and remorseful if I pointlessly download some 70 Gb game and remove it.
P.S. I really miss this game and I'm probably going to download it again sometime soon. Because this thread brought it in mind again :-)

That's really expensive (as a French)!Meanwhile in France it's like (roughly, you can have more speed or cheaper etc.) ~40-50€/month, unlimited data and speed of 1Gbps (down)/500Mbps (up) for example...
