PAC-MAN Mega Tunnel Battle: Chomp Champs heads to Steam in 2024

By - | Views: 23,422

Finally! PAC-MAN Mega Tunnel Battle was a lot of fun back when it originally released in 2020, sadly it was exclusive to Google's shuttered cloud gaming service Stadia but a proper cross-platform release is coming in early 2024. Similar also to Pac-Man 99, which was Nintendo Switch exclusive that's also been shut down.

"PAC-MAN Mega Tunnel Battle: Chomp Champs is an online-only PAC-MAN eating competition! Eat your way through multiple interconnected mazes using Power Pellets and a variety of Power Items to chomp the GHOSTS and opponent PAC-MAN players! Be the last PAC standing at the end of each match in this 64-player Battle Royale to be the Chomp Champ!"

This is a fully online Battle Royale, so no single-player.

Likely no Native Linux support but unless something weird happens, it will no doubt work in Valve's Proton. I'm just excited to see a proper release for it. I fully expect it to work well on Steam Deck too, as long as you have internet connected of course. Could be a good one to play in bed for a few rounds, so I'll be checking it out at release for sure.

Follow it on Steam.

YEE! Just this morning I was bemoaning a general lack of new maze-chase games on Steam in another news-thread, and now this!

Super Bomberman R Online (which launched on and then left Stadia, closed down, and then recently got rolled into Super Bomberman R 2) sold me on the maze-chase/battle-royale/cute-player-outfits genre mash-up, so this Pac-Man take on that formula is definitely very welcome. (I was never interested in Stadia, so this is my first time hearing of it.)

Pac-Man Mega Tunnel Battle: Chomp Champs looks considerably better than Nintendo's Pac-Man 99, though, as Pac-Man 99 never allowed interaction with other players - you were restricted to your own maze, and could only send garbage to other players' screens. Don't get me wrong, it was fun, but the lack of interaction undermined its potential.

As long as it works under Proton and isn't hampered by something nasty like Denuvo, I trust that us GOL'ers can expect to see each other out there, once the game's out?

Why not native version? Stadia was using Linux.
