Albion Online is finally getting a server for Europe

By - | Views: 21,037

Albion Online is one of the few MMOs with Linux support, and it's set to have a big change soon with the introduction of a server for Europe.

Previously the game only had one single server for everyone, which wasn't particularly great for ping times in various places. Eventually it split into East (Asia) and West (Americas) and now it's splitting again for people across Europe. As mentioned in the announcement this means a fresh new world for players, with better connection and pings for European players, along with event timings that actually fit the region.

The EU release is a little while away though, not due to throw its doors open until April 29th, with special Founders Packs and a Beta with Early Access due a few weeks before.

On Steam the game regularly sees around 10,000 concurrent players each day, but it's actually a lot bigger than that. As it's available direct from the developer, and on mobile too. In their 2023 overview post the developers mentioned that year they saw the game cross over 300,000 people online.

You can find it on the official site and Steam.

how's the cheating situation these days ?
Not sure why splitting the playerbase as long as it takes to make all servers feel equally empty is considered a good thing. This isn't 1995 and latency isn't the problem it once used to be (except maybe for Australia, which still doesn't seem to have a decent connection to anywhere, but ok).

I've tried that MMO, it's just not for me.
It's like EVE Online, but Fantasy.
One world but many zones.
From Highsec (green=you cannot be attacked), lowsec (yellow=you get knocked out), nullsec (red+black; Full PvPvE zones)

Hmm - is this more PvP or more PvE now ?
I like the idea of PvE but don't like forced PvP - which is why i avoided the wilderness in Runescape.
Can you just play with mates and do dungeon raids etc and be left alone ? Or do you get harrased by other player while mining resources ?

There is almost no PvE

This allows beginner player to get to know the base mechanics of the game, gathering low tier resources, they may fight easy mobs. There's a handful of "dungeons" (not instantiated), but it's not very popular.
But Albion is pretty much LOL in a persistent world. The economy part is great, though.

You can easily try the game and see for yourself as it's free, you'll see if it suits you quickly.
