With inspiration (clearly) from Advance Wars and other wargames of the past, Warside is looking really good and they now have a real date, new trailer and demo available. Another one made with the free and open source Godot Engine.

Take charge as one of twelve powerful Commanders, each touting distinct passive skills and Battle Powers. Wield these boons to change the tide of war and ensure victory through 30+ missions in a robust single-player Story Campaign. Additionally there will be a Skirmish mode, local and online co-op and local and online PvP too. Plus a built-in mission editor for anyone to make extras.

The developer has now confirmed the plan is to release on 28th January, 2025 and there's the new trailer below:

From the developer: "Warside began as a distraction to channel my energy into after an accident left me immobile for 18 months. My love for pixelated Wargames of the past helped it blossom into something special.” said Andy Savage, founder of LAVABIRD. "We hope you like our brand-new demo available now, and enjoy our modern take on the genre. We're excited to be part of the recent tactics resurgence and can't wait to show you Warside in full when it launches in January!"

At time of writing on Linux the demo is an empty download, so you'll need to force Proton on it until they fix that.

Check it out on the Steam page.

The map created during the map creation part of the trailer is litteraly the first map of the free mission from advance wars.
There's also another early map of AW shown after that. It's gonna be weird if nintendo do not shut down this one.

Anyway, i'll pass, i stillhave wargroove 1 to play and both the second one and Athena Crisis in my wishlist to buy and play first.

I'll try the demo. I'm happy Valve is encouraging game demos again. But yeah, if it's too much the same as Advanced Wars, it makes me a little worried.
