Steam Deck gets a Battery Charge Limit control in the latest Beta

After a long time of users asking, Valve has actually added an official Battery Charge Limit setting in the latest Steam Deck Beta update so you no longer need to use third-party tools.

This is probably one of the most-requested features people have wanted to see. Very useful for keeping your battery healthy, especially if you're leaving it charged and docked all the time.

From the May 8th release notes:

General

  • Added Battery Charge Limit control to Settings->Power
    • This option allows you to set a maximum charge limit for your Steam Deck.
    • Limiting the charge limit to 80% can be beneficial for long term battery health. This can be useful if your Steam Deck is constantly being charged (i.e. docked), or very rarely has its battery depleted.
  • Moved display dim and suspend timeout settings to Settings->Power.
  • Moved 'Show Battery Percentage' setting to Settings->Power.
  • Fixed pasting from on-screen keyboard.

Steam Input

  • Speculative Fix for rare DualSense Edge gyroscope related bug.

My deck is docked 24/6.99 as it is my work desktop.
And sometimes I take it out.
And NMC doesn't like that.
LiFePo4 also doesn't like being held at "high" voltage.

Very nice. I've been doing the 80% battery limit manually on my phone as well. After 7 years it still has about 97% capacity. For the most part I don't think skipping the top 20% will change anything for my Steam Deck.

Does this also work when Steam Deck is suspended or powered off?

Having all the store functions working correctly. When you've got a device from Valve with "Steam" in its name in your hands, you shouldn't have to grab a different device to get a good experience for things like checking your wishlist or giving Valve money.

Neat! My Steam Deck is almost always plugged in to charge, so I'll be making good use of this.
